• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

CB question

While setting my CB, I see "low dis". I can not find what each setting does...?? It would indicate low power and high power (dis) but the CB transmitting distance is no great shakes reguardless....perhaps just more BRP bling.

I would guess it is the equivilent of the RF gain used on conventional CB's. The main purpose is to limit receiving distance and to eliminate hearing all of the "skip" that is so common to the 27mhz band. Allows you to hear a buddy at short distances while blocking distant signals.
The short distance issue is very common with vehicles with a limited ground plane. The antennas just aren't that effective.

Okay, thanks. I thought that was what the squelch was for...oh well. I will run it on low and if I can hear my lead (I ride sweep) then I am okay....

George you are correct. RF gain attenuating and increasing squelch threshold produce similar results. Most low end CB's omitted the RF gain control to lower production cost. In many conditions, reducing the RF gain produces a more desirable effect by eliminating background noise etc and enabling the operator to run with squelch wide open with very little background noise. Just one of those adjustments you will have to tinker with for best results for you. And remember what works on CB today, may totally different tomorrow. Atmospheric conditions can change daily.

George may I ask you a question. Have you noticed a delay in the TX when releasing the PTT button on your BRP CB radio. I know that this was a problem on the 2010 RT's. Please let me know if you experiance this delay. I hope it is resolved on the 2011 spyder's. Some say it can be as much as 10 sec. Thanks. Bob

I have no delay when I release the PPT, so I guess they fixed it.

I am a ham radio operator (WB5WFW) and should have figured out the low/dis setting. It is a RF Attenuator switch. I have one on my amateur radio transceiver. It puts an attenuator in the antenna circuit protecting the RF amplifier and mixer from overload on strong input signals. This means that if you are close to another CB and they key up, it could damage your unit.

I had not seen these terms used before, but finally gave it some thought....and now we know.
