Carrying a golf bag??

Hello...I'm a new subscriber and this is my first post. I'm seriously considering getting a spyder. I haven't settled on RS/RT yet. I've done some forum searches and I see a lot of customization & fabrication has been done, so here's my burning question??!! Has anyone built a bracket/carrier for a golf bag onto their spyder. It wouldn't matter if it tilted the bag into the "passenger space" as I'd be riding alone if I was going to play golf. No...I don't want to discuss the trailer option. My fingers are firmly crossed as this could be a deal breaker for me.

In my opinion, the easiest way would be to buy the BRP trailer hitch, and modify it to hold the golf bag. Someone here did something similar with the (now obsolete) MMG hitch, I believe. I have seen people carry their golf bags on a BMW motorcycle, so I'm sure that with a little ingenuity, it could certainly be done with a Spyder.

:agree: I know you said no trailer BUT...The RT-622 trailer can easily fit 2 golf bags and still have plenty of storage for luggage and other things. There is someone (check link) that had a mount for the trailer hitch for sale but the shipping costs more that what the rack is worth. As far as taking it on the back seat, if you have a back-pack type strap you may get away with it, but I would hardly recommend it, especially if it is a long travel (5 miles or more).:lecturef_smilie:

Personally, I like the RT-622 for that reason. Fits the bags nicely and it does not obstruct my back view and I can use it for long travels. :spyder2:+golf=

Interesting that you asked! I am working on this very thing right now. Hope to get time to finish it in the next couple of weeks. I agree with you I want to haul my bag without the need for a trailer. Here is what I have so far. I installed the BRP hitch. Then I ebayed a slip in cooler carrier that will pin to a receiver mounted on the hitch.

I still have a few details to work out. But I think it will be exactly what you are looking for. I will post a link in this post to my "SteveMac Mods" thread as soon as it is complete. For me one of the hurdles is that the BRP hitch when mounted to the swing arm follows a straight line with the swing arm, meaning the hitch isn't level with the road surface.
Once I work that out, the rest should fall in place.

Dont let this be a deal breaker! Start shopping for that spyder and check back here in a couple of weeks for my :thumbup:AMAZING golf bag carrier.

By the way, I am not too far from you today. In Olive Branch for my nephews wedding! Just getting my spyderlovers fix before the ceremony. Wife is giving me a hard time…!

Can't blame you... Nice day to ride and Gray :spyder2: is getting her fix :gaah: and then I was going to mow the lawn and it rains!:gaah: Not a good Saturday for me! Hopefully our Church event will go well tonight... need some drinks!!:gaah:

Have fun in the wedding!

Thanks Guys!! Lots of good ideas. The trailer deal might be alright for long trips, but I'm looking for somethingeasy to put on and take off and for one up riding. I noe have several good ideas along w/ whatever stevemac comes up with so I'm pretty enthused. Bottom line is that the job seems immenintly doable which keeps my thoughts of a spyder in play for me. Now I'll have to look towards deciding between the 2 models. Do they sit?? significantly different?? Are you hunched forward considerably more with the rs than the rt. My elbows and wrists were never sportbike friendly and I always gravitated towards "standards" as opposed to cruisers or sport bikes because I found them much easier on me ergonomically. Hopefully I'll get to sit on both of them before too long.

:agree: I would also like to see a system can be also adapted for bicycles. My wife wants to go riding in the local parks so taking the :spyder2: with the bicycles in the back would also be nice for short trips.

I have this system right now. Another Spyderlover (Horse171) designed it for his golf clubs, then improved on his design (lighter and I think aluminum), so wanted to sell his prototype. The picture is of his RT with golf clubs mounted.

Although I don't golf, we love to ride bicycles (roadies, for the most part), so I wanted a way to do both. I adapted his basic design, had a local welder fabricate the changes, and now can carry 2 bikes on my RT. I don't have any good pictures of it, as I've been busy, but have carried bikes comfortably on a couple of occasions. The mount slides onto the swing arm and has a rod that goes inside the hollow axle. I've ridden a little more than 100 miles with it mounted, without incident.

There was another thread that had an RS bike carrier using the MMG hitch and a commercial hitch mount carrier, and this link has a golf bag carrier with an enclosed bag.

I am also interested in what you guys come up with.I have a RS and would like to come up with something to carry golf clubs or fishing rods but am not interested in towing a trailer. The BRP hitch is an obvious starting point
but I am I am a little strapped right now for mod money.Keep us posted.

I guess the bicycle carrying system has hope! :2thumbs: Thanks!!

Bag Storage?

Are you a member of a golf club? The easiest and safest solution is to get bag storage at the club. I dont think a Sypder is designed to carry golf clubs. Good luck.

Yep. But I don't always play at the same course and a twisty road trip to a new course is going to be a blast. I am pretty confident the Spyder can handle the clubs... At least I intend to find out!! ;)

Yes!! That is almost exactly what I had in mind. I think I can build for far less than $350 though. At least I intend to try. I'll keep detailed records when I post the results. Thanks for the link, that helps me visualize even more what I am wanting to do!
