Cannot pair Samsung S6 to SENA SMH-10R headset for media

I have tried for hours to get my Samsung S6 paired to my SENA SMH-10R headset. It pairs for phone but not media. I really only want the media connected so I can have tunes on my headset. (The F3 does not have a radio). Tried pairing as a phone, phone selective paring, media selective and multi-point. Some pair the phone for call audio, but none of these seem to pair the media function. Tried factory reset on the headset, multiple times between pairing attempts. What am I doing wrong?

You are doing nothing wrong. The software is completely different for phone versus other media. You would need a SENA SM-10 dongle run into a Spyder's audio system (maybe coming for an F3)?? to be able to access media into the SENA headsets.

No that's not true. Most modern phones support HFP (phone)+A2DP (music).

As he said he has no radio so a SM10 will do nothing for him.

JC, sounds like your phone may not support both HFP+A2DP properly? New Android releases can start out with BT issues. Been there before....

What is your version of Android on 5.0 or 5.1.1? Did you update it recently?

You might search and S6 forums for reported BT issues.

I recently got the S6 phone as well. I have successfully paired it in A2DP protocol (media mode) with other devices, but have not yet tried it with my Sena headset. I've got a busy week ahead, but as time permits, I intend to research this problem and find a solution, if possible. If you find a solution before me, please update this thread with the results. Finless is correct.... I was wrong. The old phone I used to have did not support music but I see that most of the new ones do.

I have the smh10. With the IPhone, I only needed to press the play button on the sena and the music would play. Last October I which to the Samsung Note4. Now I have to activate the music program on the phone , then I can control it with the sena. As someone stated, the Android software is somewhat different.

BTW. I'm on my third note 4, both prior notes had software issues.

I stand corrected. I was able to activate my music program using only the Sena.

Thanks everyone. Finless you were dead on track. Phone did just update to 5.1. All my attempts to pair via different modes and unpair, repair etc had the phone BT software confused. Rebooted the phone, long process by the way, longer than my Windows PC.

Then clearing the pairings on the headset and sena pairings on the phone and start from scratch. Paired as phone and both phone and media paired almost instantly. Even the music controls Next, Prev and Pause work from the headset. Will make my 300 to get home tomorrow much more enjoyable. And I will no longer miss having a stereo on the bike!

Loving my new F3 but so much to learn and adapt. And with the bike as new as it is, the vendors have so much to learn too.

You got an update to Android 5.1 already? You must be on the T-Mobile network. I heard they were releasing the update. I'm with Verizon, so will have to wait a while longer for that update. Glad you got the Bluetooth issue fixed. I was going to suggest you clear Bluetooth data & cache, re-establish all your pairings, and try again, but wanted to try it myself before suggesting it. The update, of course, did that for you. :thumbup:

I'm with Sprint. Although it may not be released to the general population yet. But if there are no major hiccups with it for the next week or so for the first few it should roll out soon.

Follow-up Post

Now that I have gotten a chance to look into this, I found that my new Galaxy S6 phone would also not stream music to my SMH10 Headset. The problem is not necessarily inherent to the phone, but more likely due to the intricacy of the many ways that it is possible to pair various devices with Sena Headsets. Sometimes the order in which you establish the pairings will effect the outcome.

I have since resolved the problem with my S6 phone streaming music to my SMH10. My headset was also one firmware version behind, so I updated that as well. In doing all that, I took the time to experiment a little about how Sena headsets accommodate the various Bluetooth protocols, and I came up with the instructions I posted here. (I did this mainly for me, because I will need to refer to these instructions in another year or two, but hopefully they will be of some use to others in the mean time. )
