• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

998cc Can anyone identify this Black Box ???

Been doing some work on a 2009 GS and come across this black box and have no idea as to what its for. Three wires come out of it:-

Red - connects to Gear position sensor
Black - connects to Earth
Another Black with two plugs on it - connects into brake light harness.

Is anyone able to tell me what it does so I can determine if I need to keep it.

Thanks Trev...

No idea what it was designed to do, but I think it's something the previous owner designed.

I used the last picture to identify the company that created it:

https://www.elabtronics.com/

Their website says: Imagine it, Create it, Use it!

I found a document about how to use the eLabtronics Voltage Switch:

https://www.elabtronics.com/downloads/eLabtronics Voltage Switch Booklet.pdf

"Want to trigger a device when a monitored voltage, temperature or light
intensity reaches a certain value? The eLabtronics Voltage Switch is an
incredibly easy way of doing it."

In the document there are a couple of interesting examples, including a Low Battery Alarm example.

Thanks racoon, I was just looking at the same info. I will have to go check and clarify that the wire does in fact run to the Gear pos sensor (look like it but i will double check). Thanks very much for the info. Had me sort of stumped..

racoon,
Think I've got it figured out. Here is the link to a post on this site.

https://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?127980-Gearbox-Position-Sensor

About 3/4 page down there is a post from Freddy talking about this black box being added to Spyders as a fix for Australian compliance and the need for reversing light. I know my F3 has flashing indicators when reversing but not sure about this ol GS. Ill have to check when I get it back together.

This would explain the use of the GPS

Input from Reverse wire on GPS triggers an output to rear lights.

No this is not right as mine has the output (Red wire going to the GPS)
The input is from the rear light harness.

Unless they just wired it up wrong..

Boy I got a headache now.... lol..

Could it be a mod to flash the brake lights when you downshift? :dontknow:

Cobranut, Possibly, I guess. Anyway, I have removed it for now. As for the reversing lights idea, both indicators flash when put into reverse, just like on my F3, so it wasn't to do with that. Getting two codes coming up now so I'll have to investigate them.

P0826 - Shift Up/Down switch detection problem (not again, this Spyder is on its 4th one).
P0130 - Lamda sensor #1 (I may have left the wires off by mistake as I have just gone through all connections for a cleanup).

The saga continues.

If only BUDS software and license was cheaper...

I'll keep you all posted.
