• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Can Am Oil

I have a 2013 Can Am Spyder RT Limited and it's fun! Just had the 600 mile check and learned the Can AM oil was over $13.00 per quart! Not fun! Does anyone know the difference between Can Am oil (blended) and say, blended oil from one of the major labels? (I know use of their oil is tied to the warranty.)

You can use any oil that meets the specifications spelled out in the owners manual. It is illegal for them to force you to use BRP's oil to maintain the warranty. I'm a dealer for Amsoil and have used their 10W40 MCF full synthetic motorcycle oil in all of the bikes I've owned including my'10 RT-S with no problems and better fuel economy and lower heat. I even take the oil to my dealer for installation. Get in touch with site sponsor Baja Ron for all your lubrication needs.

If you would like further info at to the legal aspects on this situation google the "Magnuson Act," named after the US Senator who authored the legislation years ago. As already stated, it is illegal to require use of a manufacturers oil to keep a warranty valid.

I use Valvoline 4T 10-40 full synthetic motorcycle specific oil that can be purchased at Walmart for between $8 - $9, cheaper than your dealers charge for a blended oil. It has appropriate specifications for a wet clutch motorcycle and meets BRPs stated requirements.

Frankly I do not buy oil form the original OEM they just buy it from another source and that source is usually the lowest bid to private label it.

Oil is one of the cheapest ways to keep that motor running well for a long time.

Me.................Amzoil guy all the way.

It is the nature of the beast. Their is no " cheap " oil that will meet specs and not ruin your clutch. That price is a little high but not by much.

Thank you to all who addressed my question about the cost of oil. Good to know there are alternatives and to be careful not to skimp on the one thing that will keep the engine running. I am new to the Can Am RT Spyder (Limited) and to this forum. Glad to be the benefactor of everyone's helpful experiences!

Amsoil all the way plus in everything else I own. Our BRP dealer still has the Amsoil banner in there shop but BRP will not let them sell Amsoil but has to sell the BRP oil. They recommended Amsoil in all recreational vehicles.
