• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Can-Am Alternative?

What’s not exactly a car but not really a motorcycle either? Does the word “autocycle” resonate? There’s a start-up company called Elio Motors, founded in 2008 by Paul Elio, that plans to build a three-wheeled model in Louisiana that’s essentially a motorcycle with auto controls.
Due to go into production in the fourth quarter of 2014, the Elio will cost $6,800 and will get 84 mpg. It warrants mention today (and a more in-depth look in the future) because the Michigan legislature last week passed a bill that removes the motorcycle endorsement requirement for operating it.
Doesn’t this make sense? While an endorsement is certainly needed to operate any motorized two-wheeler above 49cc, why must anyone need to know how to ride to drive a Can-Am Spyder, a trike or a new Elio?
Meanwhile, in Wisconsin, a bill has been introduced in the legislature that will allow disabled riders to get an ID card that will allow them to park in designated handicapped spaces. A good idea as well.

Stranger things have happened.:yikes:

These have been mentioned on different forums as well as this one for quite some time. It sounds like a real bargin, If it is truly sold at that low price it would be something to consider if you want to set IN what your riding or driving. I perfer the motorcycle type of experience by being somewhat in the wind and setting ON it and not IN it. This is the difference. I could see the Eilo in the garage along side the spyder but not taking the place of it. I just can't imagine going on a cross country tour seeing the country with a roof over my head and doors on my sides. Just my opinon though.

I wish them well, and am hoping that they can bring it to market... :2thumbs:
I think it's Rando who has been keeping us up to date on the elio.

I think the greatest value in continuing to require motorcycle endorsements is the defensive driving factor. All of these vehicles present a small visual footprint to other drivers who will say - everyone together - "I just didn't see him". The small vehicle operator must be taught to be vigilant, constantly aware of their environment and always prepared to take evasive action.

I don't see how it would be possible to pass the motorcycle skills test at a DMV in one of these . . . it was tough enough in the Spyder because of the size. As far as visibility, "Smart Cars" are pretty small, too. If these hit the streets at the proposed price, I see lots of them on the road in the future. . . college students and young folks in low paying jobs will be buying them up . . . but I suspect, like many startups, that Elio may not survive. Look what happened to DeLorien.

When they start selling them for $6800 I will buy two. It is not going to happen. Someone will eventually make an enclosed three wheel vehicle but not for that price.

The last i knew (as of June this year) the vehicle is not registrable in CT. 3 wheel cars are not allowed. It does not meet the motorcycle definition as you do not sit on the seat you sit IN it. So it is a car and not a bike.

Of course with the proper political connections this ruling can be changed.

I can't wait till I get mine. At least this will be made is USA and if there is Heat issue, ball joint, steering, air box, wobbling front end, boiling gas tank, dps, and more others have complained uncle SAM will help us to take care of it.

I am ready to pay for my ELIO as soon as available. Lets be positive and lets not forget this are american thousand jobs for some of us who really needs them.

:agree: with those above. A little less than one year and counting until the next big thing hits the streets.

Many Elio threads to peruse on this site if you want to go into depth and discussion.

It seems to me that these posts are a way for the elio company to advertise here on our website. They show up about 3-4 times a year. Until I see that they are actually for sale somewhere, I am not interested. Besides, it is just a cage with one less tire. It is not as similar to a spyder as one might think. What would be really interesting is to see another company actually build a trike to compete with the spyder. Competition does make for a better product, and there are plenty of directions for the original design to be taken in.

Just sayin'............
