• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Buying my first Spyder

I am looking at buying my first Spyder. I am looking at a couple of 2008 models, both with approximately 29K miles. What in particular do I need to look for? I've ridden sportbikes and Harleys for 30 years, so I know my way around a bike. I would just like to know what particular issues to look for, tell-tale signs, etc. when looking at the older Spyders.

Thanks in advance

Since you're looking at a couple of first-year GS models: you should find out if any supporting paperwork for the servicing of the bikes is available.
After that: grab the V.I.N.s from the bikes, and have your favorite Spyder dealer run them. This'll tell you if all of the updates and recalls have been addressed.
After that: it's just like buying any other used bike.
Tires
What does the oil look like
Brakes (Pads, rotors, fluids)
What modifications have been done to it...

Bob has you pretty much covered here. An additional good side--the 2008 are relatively free from issues. I cut my teeth on the 2008 GS Manual tranny version. 23,500 trouble free miles before I moved on up.:yes:

Thanks for the info.

I am also looking at a 2015 RS with 5100 miles. Only upgrade is LED lights. I can get it for $11K. No accidents, all service records. The '08s are going for $7 - $8K, so I think for a few thousand more, I'd be better off with the 2015.

:agree: The newer bikes comes with the improved Brembo brakes, and the newer 991 series engine...

I'm not sure about "swapped-out"; there are several different types of risers and spacers that can be used with them...

As far as the 2015: you could swap out the bars, and install a set from an ST, or RT!
