• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. That would be my guess. I wonder what the count for burned Spyders is once the evap canister has been removed. I think it is Zero.

After playing the BRP game with 2 new canisters and a purge valve on my 2011 RT, the canister was removed. Put the vent line in-line filter in and it still didn't help. When it's 75 or above and bike has been running for an hour or more, the fuel vent line, now going to the rear wheel area, still drips, has vapor and stinks badly. Going to put Ron's pipe wrap on soon and also put more hear reflecting patches on the tank. When the low fuel light comes on, the line has even more vapor and dripping. Pathetic. Just sent an e-mail to BRP yesterday to the Customer Service Fiolks.Bought the bike in Aug last year and never a problen until Feb this year with anout 8,000 miles. Done all the things above and now up to 16,000 and it's as bad as ever. Any more suggestions? This is the only continuing problem I have.:banghead: The other few, minor items have been cleared in a timely and professional manner. Anyone know of a fuel flow meter to hook into the vent line? Be nice to know how much gas is going out the (old) cannister hose. Only kidding, I hope you realize, but that's about the way I feel about this continuing delema.

Oh that picture brings a tear to my eyes, that is very sad. I love my Spyder I would hate to see it go up in flames, yes I have an 08, no I don't carry a fire extingisher.

For us newbies to the spyder game, what should we look for as warning signs....smell, smoke, drippings....???

This has scared me a little....

For a while, there were a number of fires. The problem has been fairly rare lately. It seems to occur most in summer, for some reason. There were a variety of proposed causes, but few were ever confirmed.

One thing 2008 GS owners can do is look to see that the emissions canister vent has been extended. There was a service bulletin for this. If you have a short u-shaped vent hose, ending a few inches from the canister, have it addressed. The new vent hose extends just below the bottom of the splash pan.

Another thing you should do is check your fuel line. Some early PEs has a fuel line that was too short, and was exposed where it passed the front head. Later Spyders had this line extended slightly and run through a piece of split loom for protection. If yours is exposed, make sure it is not chafed. I recommend adding some split loom.

Also, check your fuel filter. Some fuel lines have come loose from the filter, and some are just loose, being able to be moved or twisted. the lines should be tight. I'd recommend replacing the filter and clamps if yours is not right...but you could just replace the clamps if the hose is still sound. Be careful not to overtighten the clamps...they can cut into the hose.

Anyone owning a 2008 GS should carry a fire extinguisher. nojoke

If you can find one small enough to carry. Here are two; Fire-Gone which is a foam extinguisher and FireX-1000 which is dry chemical. Both of these are about the size of a spray paint can. They don't have the range or capacity of a standard 1 pound ABC extinguisher but will work well for quick attacks. Foam is the best since it cools and blocks oxygen. Dry chem blocks oxygen. But make sure you check, some of these type extinguishers have an expiration date. Make sure you know how to operate extinguishers before you need one.
