• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Burning smell over a ride.

After a ride there is a burning smell coming from the RTL, can't pin point it yet. Just had the 9300 mile service done a couple of weeks ago, no change. :yikes:

 Try turning the ignition on, and doing everything right up to where you would hit the starter...

Only DON'T start it!

Do you smell it then also? :dontknow:
(That would make it an electrical thing... :yikes:

If you don't smell it; look for something that's been left laying where it shouldn't be...
(A dropped cleaning rag or something...)

Curious. ....

Can you tell if it is a burning oil or burning rubber smell. ?? Maybe some leaking onto the pipe somewhere. Brake resivour caps on the wrong way will let fluid leak, water pump seals, there was a case cover bolt issue that leaked oil. The only other burning smell I come up with is cork....not likely though cause that is the clutch. Did the service guys not come up with anything..?? :dontknow:

When I removed my cat a few years ago, I noticed that little bits of road tar, cinders, and junk like that, can find their way on top of it after being slung around by the tire. They sit there and fry and you can smell it for a few minutes after a ride. I haven't smelled the smell since. So, if it smells a little like hot rubber, tar or plastic, I think it's something like that.

+1

Can you post a photo of your drive belt as viewed from the rear, showing how it rides on the pulley. Take the photo after rolling to a stop while going straight forward. There have been some, myself included that had a rubber odor caused by the belt tracking hard against the wheel flange.

Obviously it could be other items also, such as leaks or electricial so I don't rule them out. This is most times an easy visual check to rule out one possibility.

My drive belt just touches the flange and I do notice a bit of a rubber smell after a ride.
I'll Be looking into a belt adjustement when I have a laser alighment this summer.

The smell of burning rubber can cause::::
