• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Burning rubber smell

Last week asked about vibration from belt, called dealer to get it looked at , but could not see our mech. until this week. So took it for a ride sat. to see what speeds & rpm's & could we stop it at change of speed etc. The answer was it got worse from 50mph to 80. Had mic'd the gap and was at 1.5mm from flange. When we stoped after about 90 miles there was rubber residue on flange and the burning rubber smell. So my ? is how often does the dr.belt need adj.? Is this a one time break-in stretch ? we are at 1650 miles, it was said to be correct at 810 our first service. 2013 RTLimited. Thank you in advance!:banghead:

If the vibration is bad you will have to ajust it with a kriket tool or a iphone app or dealer.look up the ajustment here on
SL there is a video.

BELT MOVEMENT

....My first two Spyders an 08 GS and a 2011 RSS after belt alignment they would stay that put.......However on my 2014 RT every time I check it ....the belt has moved to different position......I have checked the tension and the how secure the axel is and they are both within specs.......I have no idea why this belt is wandering ??????.....Mike

I tried several methods of belt alignment. Straight edges, riding dead straight and stopping, raising the rear wheel and spinning by hand. Nothing gave good results.

The best method and one I use is to get the rear wheel slightly raised, chock the machine and let it idle in 1st gear. Set tension first via left adjuster, set alignment via right adjuster. Axle is not tight, but just loose enough to move as needed when wheel is turning.

Once adjusters are set, torque rear axle and recheck.

As for vibration and belt tension, others mentioned, you could buy the tool, use an app or get a sonic frequency device.

All the best with it, our machine was a stinky smell of rubber for a few hundred miles. Aligning the belt ended all of it.

If it matters, the belt only aligns in the forward straight direction. Backing or cornering sees the belt walk slightly.

Thanks for the replys, one more thing is this adj. covered under warrenty, and what has the avg. milage been before needing this again ?

My belt needed adjustment at the 600 and 4800 mile service. It was loose (e.g. it stretched). At my 9500 mile service it was perfect and no adjustment needed.

Adjustment is not covered under warranty nor is the belt itself for that matter..
