Bumpskid - LED or not?

I'm looking to add a bumpskid to my 2015 RTS.

$141 to add LED's to it?

The standard version is $169, and the one with LED's is $310.

Is it worth getting the LED version? It seems like I could add the LED's to the standard one for well under $40.

Any first-hand advice would be greatly appreciated.

Tough one..!!

It's your money...hyeaersonally not a fan, I can't see them but for those into leds it is nice. You have to decide if its worth it..could be something else you can get with the difference...:dontknow:

Certainly spendy. But it's not just pasting an LED strip to the front. They are at the leading edge on a component that is designed to take a hit or two. Those LED's are recessed into the bump skid to protect them. No small chore.

I think they look awesome. Price and budget are always a factor.

Bumpskid - LED or not

My $.02 worth... my black 2009 Yamaha V-Star 1100 Custom has 14 blue LEDs installed. At first, I thought the glowing tins and under-glow was worth the expense but after having to replace some of them when the lights and/or wires were damaged by kicked up road debris, my opinion quickly changed. As a result, when it came time to make the "With/Without LED" decision on the bumpskid, the choice for me at least came easy.... "Without"

I've got the Bumpskid with the LEDs embedded along the edge. Its great.

I do ride in the late evenings and it really makes the Spyder way more visible.

Yes its more money with the LEDS but I think its worth it.If you do any riding at dusk or night it looks good :thumbup:

I have said it many, many times. You can't have too many lights.

Bob's picture in post #7 shows the LED version nicely. Totally visible in the daylight, and there is now over 20 hours of it in Alaska.

I get lots of comments from almost everyone on it. I know they are seeing me better than if I were without the lights.

As farkles go, consider this one of the lesser expensive ones. :thumbup:

Is it what you want? Then do it. As for doing it yourself or paying the piper....we'll sometimes when you do it yourself, what looks/sounds like an easy task and should only take 1/2 hour to do, ends up taking you a lot longer and more expensive than just buying it. How handy are you?

I have the bump skid without lights. It serves me well and I can add lights to other places.

Without special tools and the necessary skill, you're likely to ruin the bumpskid trying to recess the LED's. And if you don't recess them, they are not going to last. I like doing things myself whenever I can. And I don't mind taking on the nearly impossible at times. But watching Harvey do these bumpskids, this is something I'd leave to him.

Even he has ruined a few trying to get them right. When he does it, it's on his dime. If you do it.... well... :helpsmilie:
