• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

BUDS won't listen...

With the fuse blown, BUDS cannot "see" the reverse actuator, so it assumes it is faulty. The trailer module is not equipped on a stock machine, so that would not likely be programmed into BUDS. Being electrical instead of electronic, BUDS couldn't differentiate between them anyway...although it might be able to test either. If the fuse blows repeatedly, even with the trailer disconnected, the next troubleshooting step is to disconnect the trailer module and try again. If that does not keep the fuses from blowing, the reverse actuator is probably faulty. If the fuse then holds and reverse works, the trailer module is faulty. Troubleshooting 101.

I know... wish the techs at the dealer knew that!!!

When I worked as a Service Manager for a mailing machine company, my boss (the owner) told me "always keep parts in stock... pretty much keep at least one part available in which you can build a separate machine with them." I wish most dealers could follow that...:(

one part for each bike that a dealer would sell I can't imagine the size of,the parts dept, would be. How maney parts would it take to build a spyder not practical to me

The way the US government (IRS) requires little business to report inventory and what not force them to take it on the chin in this manner, so less parts inventory is the answer, and the customers suffer.

A Trouble Shooting Guide When BUD's cannot readily identify a problem

The information contained within this manual is a compilation of information gathered over these last years that should help technicians troubleshoot problems that are outside the scope of BUDS.

BRP Roadster
Edition 1

Get used to it is all I can say you will likely be in the shop may times with other problems. I get an average of 2000 miles to the breakdown, lol. Hopefully the new software upgrade will at least preven one from being stranded if the dash lights up.

:agree: you are correct and I would have to say you could teach the tecks a lot. This is what the store manager at the dealer where i got my spyder from(and fixed) he told me that the serv teck would download the buds and send them to brp. BRP would look at the reports and then call the dealer an tell them what to replace.nojoke that sounded like BRP doesn't trust the dealers tecks. To me they need less tecks an more machicts. pet

I hear that complaint pleanty from the dealer's owner. Says that every time they call BRP for tech support, it's like the ones on the other end are condesending the service techs at the dealer, being sarcastic and with an attitude.

I guess I am one of the lucky ones. Haven't got a limp mode home yet on mine (except when the clutch gave out... after that there was just no power:shocked:).

I agree that this is a known issue & a call to BRP would have likely resulted in a much quicker fix. I had this problem myself last year & after researching it on this forum, I called my dealer in Atlanta & told them what was happening and what the best thought on the problem was. They ordered the right part and installed it when I got home.

I still feel compelled to come to the tech's defense. If BUDS says something is at fault, how would the tech know any different? If the reverse actuator was indeed the cause of the fuse blowing, why not assume the F7 fuse blown wouldn't also result in the trailer lights being out? As a tech, you see a multitude of symptoms & have BUDS to assist you in the diagnoses and repair. I think many or most techs would run the BUDS course. If the BRP Tech Support process is long and painful (anyone every waited for '...the next available operator'?), the tech might be soured to spending time on the phone.

You are right about the assumption, but the proper course of action would have been to replace the fuse and then run BUDS again. They missed theat step...and probably missed the blown fuse for a while.

I would not be surprised... I haven't gotten a call back yet since Friday when I called asking again. That day I was told they were expecting the trailer module!:banghead::mad::gaah:

They are closed today Monday... they better give me good news tomorrow or I'm off to another dealer!

Update

Dealer (finally) called. Gray is ready for pickup and is driving like a Japanese watch! Picking her up this afternoon!!
