BRP Ultrasport Windshield: It appears, I need to get new foam pads, & washers ,,,

,,, for mounting it. I have tried to remove the ones from the stock shield. And, am having no luck. I cannot believe these were not included in the new windshield package. New torx bolts are included. But, not the pads and washers. The instructions even indicate to put new ones on.

I put a hair dryer to one set on the stock windshield, too. That washer, and pad will not budge. It looks like those should come right off, too! :(

Foam pads and washers? BRP must have upgraded the mounting of the windshield since I got my Spyder as neither the stock nor the BRP touring windshield had foam pads or washers. :dontknow:
Just the windshield mounted directly to the dash housing with 4 torx screws.

'Morning Brian! Yep! Nice cozy mount! The windshield goes directly to the dash. On the opposite side is a round pad, then the washer, and the bolt.

Good morning back at ya! The only windshields I've used that had washers on the screw head side of the windshield were the F1 windshields (F1, EVO II, EVO III, etc.) that we have. Both the BRP windshields used no washers. That might be why Nancy'stoy has two broken BRP windshields. :(

I remember reading about some broken windshields in the past. And, that's just what I was thinking after you said yours and Nancy's had no pads or washers.

:agree: I don't think the earlier units had pads and washers... mine didn't either. (#792) But, seeing a potential issue, I just add a rubber (or nylon) and flat washer when swapping between the F1 and stock.

Our PE didn't have any padding, either. Had two broken windshields so far, even with screws only finger tight. Added rubber washers after the last problem, but more holes have failed since. Still waiting permanent fix from BRP.

Hey Greg, I also had problems removing the rubber bushings from my stock windshield when replacing it. I used a small screw driver and carefully pried them off using my finger as a fulcrum. So they will come off.

My Spyder has a few washers on the windshield...looks like the dealer used what they had when they upgraded mine...next time through I'll make sure I have washers on all the screws...

I bought the 4 new bolts washers and pads awhile back for my SM5 after seeing that our new SE5 had them.

They work better, but I will tell you this.... BRP will really bend you over for these price wise!

The list price on 4 bolts 4 washers and 4 pads was over $30!!!

They seem to work better and do protect the mounting locations so cracks are less likely to happen but $30!

I all to well know PROFIT is not a dirty word, but still $30!

It's pretty sad that BRP does not include the pads, and washers in the new windshield package. New bolts are included, however. That doesn't make much sense.

After my first attempt, I have not tried again to remove the original ones from the stock windshield. That's the other thing! Why don't they just fall off??!! Lol! Or; come off with a little tug?

But, $30 for a whole washer / pad kit?! That's not very fair, is it? The dealer, I bought the Ultrasport from ordered (what I believe is the kit). The lady told me it was about $15. I'll keep you all posted.

It stinks having the new windshield, and not being able to install it.

I may have gotton bent over more because rather than as a "kit" mine were ordered as 12 seperate parts. (4 of each)

But even at $15 for these it's good money if you can get it for sure!

Since we are talking about windshields, I have one torx screw that refuses to come out by hand. Have to use a power tool to get it out. Any suggestions?

Well, well........... roflmao

I decided to have another look.. And, low and behold, it all becomes much easier when looking from behind. Uh huh! Those holes are slotted, you see. And, I simply punched out the existing pads and washers with a screwdriver. That was so easy. I amaze myself sometimes! Lol!!

I had the Ultrasport mounted in about 5 minutes.

I got the windshield as an xmas gift. The directions also said install new foam and metal washers but did not come with any new ones. It only came with new bolts.

So i took the foam and metal washer off the old windshields with a flat tip screw driver. Used them again and in 2 mins my windshield was done. Looks cool.

One new mod i really like is the leather seat cover.
