• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Broken tie rod

Friend of mine recently went down in New York. He thinks it was from a broken tie rod. I can't find a single thread addressing tie rod problems. But I can find and know about the Swaybar link issues.

Has anyone seen anything about problems with tie rod's?

thanks

Don't know whether he hit something or not. However he is a subscriber to ATGATT. Hit the road at 65 at came away with a cut to the forehead (broken faceshield) and a broken ankle. Evidently it pays.

Yikes..!!

Glad he is alright so to speak..never heard of such a problem. The hiem joints breaking would not cause such an accident and there would have to be serious previous damage to a tie rod for it to break. Would be interested to know what really happened here...:dontknow:

I think I remember a couple of posts about replacement of front end parts that were "binding", on brand new machines. I couldn't find them using the search function, but that isn't unusual for me.

If the lock not was not tight on the tie rod, it could come out but before it did the rider I would think would notice serious problems with the alignment.

I had a bad tie rod end joint on my Spyder. It made a lot of clunking noise as well as steering issues long before it was to the point of breakage. It's hard to believe a tie rod would just break with no warning signs at all.

I have no idea what happened here so no judgement intended. But there is a happy medium between obsessing over every little quirk and ignoring strange noises and changes in handling, breaking, etc.
