There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Breakaway floorboards work and are needed

spacer

FYI - for those that purchased the seal floorboard (long ones), before October 2013 ( I think) you will need to check out your brake pedal spacer. it needs to be 1 1/2" and thicker NOT the 7/8 that it
came with at that time. I came close to rear ending a nice big azz truck , because my pedal slammed flushed to my board and was still rolling. done the emergency ballerina toe act to stop..it.:yikes:

I did informed seal floorboard mfg. here on SL. hopely he informed everyone...so like I said FYI to all.

So, what does it take to put it back on? Do you have to put a new one on? Is it 'broken' when it 'breaks away'?

I believe Seal now includes the brake pedal spacer with the floorboards. I have a set on both :spyder2:'s and the elevated brake pedals with spacers.

Thank you for posting the beta test information on the break away floorboards.

Very glad you got through the incident without any problems.

brake away

is the break away function only on the 14's or on the 13's also. and if someone stands on the floorboard will it break away ???

They are on the 2013's , you really need to hit them hard! Dealer showed me how to do it , when I brought mine , last June.

Find out! Be sure!

I have the Seal RT SE5 DLX Floor Boards. They are delivered with a spacer that raises the break pedal. Ever since I have installed them I have wondered if I have enough brake travel distance to totally lock up or not. I have had to stop pretty quickly and all works well, but in an all out emergency situation I am not sure. Has anyone had that experience with the Seal RT SE5 DLX Floor Boards?
Do what I do with every vehicle that I ever acquire. Find out what your vehicle does in a panic stop, and also how you react to what your vehicle does! Just find a deserted stretch of road, get up to whatever speed you think appropriate, and STOMP that brake until you are fully stopped. You might even do it in a somewhat sharp curve... lots of tests can be useful to learn what will happen, and to prepare yourself for the real thing. :D

I have the seal floorboards and have also experienced a hard brake where I felt as though it did not stop correctly. I was going to speak to John at Spyderfest regarding the size of the spacer. Now I will email him and ask for the larger spacer. I will pay him if necessary, as it has been over a year since I purchased the floorboards. Please don't take this post the wrong way, as I Love my floorboards, just want to be able to stop in an emergency.

All Spyders with factory floor boards and that would be 2013 and 14 SE models. The breakaway function has nothing to do with weight or force. When the brake pedal travels past a certain point it activates a release mechanism that allows the front of the floorboard to drop. Now Lamont put enough force on the pedal with a good braking system to release the board. Now think if if there is partial brake failure. For example you drive over debri that damages the front brake line. The brake pedal will have to travel farther to get enough braking force out of the rear system. I would guess the pedal will travel an extra 1.5 to 2 inches.

I have released mine by hand for curiosity when I had the panels off, just to see how they work.

whew

:yikes:Glad to hear you're ok. Sure are keeping your guardian angels busy! Umm, you DO have a Guardian bell, right??

I got to see it in action on my 2014 RTS. I was making a right and there was traffic coming the other way but there was time to jump out there. A red car in front of me hit the gas and I did too looking at the truck that was coming. Had plenty of time but the gal in front of me changed her mind and when I turned my head there she was stopped. :yikes:
I slammed on the brakes and the floorboard broke away and I was able to get that extra amount of peddle I needed to stop the Spyder. Freaked me out but I was thankful that feature was added and now I know it is needed. Good job BRP!
:bowdown::doorag:

that is why i have asked about the added length to the brake when you extend it.
it changes the through on the peddle and i was concerned about not having
enough room for travel with the floorboards on. nobody responded
to that on here but i guess i got my answer. is there and adjustment on the
peddle to make up the difference in the travel. glad it worked out for could have been a bad day.
