• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. break in period

The break in period for the 2014 is 3,000. miles. I have a trip planed in a couple weeks. 225 Miles one way
another at end of June and an 800 mile one at the end of July. The manual says no prolong trips. Any
suggestions. No way will I have 3,000 miles by then.:yikes:

As I see it..!!

they do not want you to get on the freeway hit 75 mph and cruise for 3,000 miles. Stops along the way, vary the speed up and down and you will be fine. I do wonder what a prolonged trip really is....enjoy your trips and be safe..!! :ohyea::ohyea:

Yes I was thinking the same thing about a PROLONGED trip.

Vary your speeds...
Use the transmssion to run different rpm levels...
Give the bike several heat-soak cycles along the way...
And enjoy your trip! :D

My Tech told me that the first 600 miles or so, were probably when those practices might be important... After that; he said to just ride it! :2thumbs:

Thank you. I will practice that this weekend.

Prolonged trip is just what you say....600-700 miles a day @ 75 mph. Ride the 600, but vary the speeds, no wide open for 3,000 or so....change the oil and filter as suggested....enjoy.

I am in the exact same scenario. I have been riding a 2012 Spyder RTS for the last couple of years (over 17,500 miles). The new 2014 RTS is just to much to pass up so I bought one today with pick-up on Monday. I have a trip to Missouri in early June and then Orlando about a month later. The info in this thread is very helpful. I will ask my Spyder tech on Monday and see if he confirms as well. I'll post on Monday when I find out!

I am just thankful first service isn't 600 miles!

Thanks everyone!

Please do. You are going to love it.

We took our first trip at 1,500 miles and towed a trailer for 1,300 miles and then got our first service. No problem at all. The unit seems to be loosening up nicely. Ride it like you stole it. It's under warranty. I have been riding for almost 50 years and have taken many of my new bikes on long trips right after taking delivery in 1 bike was purchased in Flagstaff,Az. and had its first service in Kansas on the way to Pa.If a machine is so fragile that you can't use it then buy something else that you can use.

Ride it like you stole it.

Great advice!

Part of the reason I am trading in (besides the great new features) is that my 2012 has had a problem with the power steering since my 15,000 maintenance. It would go in an out quite a bit. Driving along going around corners and all is well then all of a sudden the next few turns felt like I had to break the handlebars to get around the corner. I have taken it in twice but techs could not reproduce. Called BRP to open a ticket and dropped off my 2012 this past Friday and that is when they made me a trade-in deal I couldn't refuse... Hopefully that issue is behind me with the 2014!

I'm also a new owner of a 2014 RTS and have been an avid motorsports person for over 30 years. My passion has been snowmobiling in the northeast for the last 20 years. I was employed at a local dealership selling can am, Polaris and victory motorcycles.

I'm no expert but have followed this procedure

http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

in all my latest purchases and have done it with my current RTS. My last snowmobile was a 2012 Ski Doo 1200 TNT...which was basically the same motor as our '14 RTS.

these motors are strong and bullet proof...I personally don't baby the motors but also won't beat on them...there's a balance. The biggest thing is not to overheat your motor during break in.

My dealer told me basically the same thing. But I didn't use the cruise and stayed off the interstate on the 600 mile trip home from the dealer.

Picked up my 2014 RTS today (Cognac)! Love it but it is going to take some getting used to with the new shifting "levels."

I asked the tech about break in and he basically confirmed what everyone else was saying... Just alter speeds a lot and don't stay at one speed for long.

That is also the way I break mine in. Logical and seems to be the way to go.

Picking mine up on Wednesday 2014 SE6 RTS Black Spyder

Will be picking mine up tomorrow and have a 300 mile trip back home, Thanks for the info on altering the speed, but since I will be on I-70 heading west will have to alter it from 65- 80 in variables lengths.
