Brakes go click!

Hello all,

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge about this: Whenever I apply my brakes I hear a distinct click. It is about as loud as when your reverse lock out clicks back into position on the manual tranny.

Its been happening for several thousands of miles since having the entire brakes redone to do away with warped rotor vibration, and general squealing. Those problems are gone, but now the click.

Ideas?

THX!

Thank you for easing my mind....2011 RS SM. Just 3K on mine and the click is there.
For info...what is clicking...is it the front calipers...?

I was told it was the perfs in the rotors making and breaking contact with the pads. Mine has always done it also. No issues.

No click, but mine produces a whirring noise when the brakes are applied.

Again, the mechanic said it was normal due to the rotor.

Interestingly, the other bikes that I have owned (Goldwing, Harleys, BMWs) appeared to have a similar rotor design but did not generate any noise.

part of the reason you hear it on a spyder and not a 2 wheeler is the wheels are out to the sides without most of the bike between you and the noise

Clicking

I have 12,000 miles of clicking and no problems. Like everyone else, dealer told me it was normal.

I came from a Harley that made noise from places I didn't even know it had. Always was told it was a
"Harley noise". So, we now have :spyder2: noises. Music to ride by.

Brake click question defined more closely.

Thank you all for your input.

I do not think it is the rotor perforations. That noise I am familiar with. The noise I have now is a single distinct click. Almost identical to the click the reverse lock out makes when it releases as you shift into 1st gear on the manual transmission. I never heard this single click noise in the first 22,000+ miles.

Any other ideas?

Thanks again.

Pretty hard to diagnose over the internet. Could be play in the caliper break pad, or other front end component that allows movement when the brake is applied giving you 1 click, clunk, whatever when the play is taken up.

Just a wild guess there.

:agree: with Ron. On my 2011 RTS SE5 the click is most pronounced right after changing directions. i.e. backing out of the driveway or trailer, then the first time brakes are applied going forward, I get one distinct click. Same when changing to reverse. I think Ron nailed it on "taking up the slack". ;)
