• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

brake squeel fix

rinse out your brake calipers / pads with a garden hose. takes about one minute. very easy, lasts for a few hundred miles.

I find anytime I have ever done my brakes on any vehicle, a sure fire way to be squeak free is to start with a good quality pad, then apply brake lube on any metal on metal parts, back of the pad, clips etc. As well as the caliper sliders etc.Never have a a squel when following this procedure. JMHO,

Netminder, I assume you don't ride your Spyder in the rain? Because rinsing your wheels, rotors and pads is the same as riding in the rain. I agree with your method of using the proper products, however that is not always a 100% gaurentee of not having break squeal. Sometimes when things get dirty they don't work per spec. I preach this to my clients all day long. Clean machines operate better and last longer.

Defenitely like to keep things clean and realize, when riding in the rain the brake, rotors etc get wet, but I still do not make a habit of spraying my rotors/pads with water when washing my Spyder, and usually dry the rotors off if I do. Usually because it will sit in the garage a couple of days before the next ride, I do not specifically ride in the rain unless I am going on a trip, and get caught in it, then will usually ride more after it stops, so it is not sitting after the rinsing. But to each there own, I just do not do that myself. As for 100% guarantee it won't squeak, no, but I would say it has prevented brake squel a good 80-90% of the times I have done my brakes over the years.Everyone has their believes, that's just mine.:)Working years ago in Bodywork and the detailing business for 15 yrs, I always told my clients keep your vehicle washed, waxed and in these parts rustproofed and It will last forever. My 2003 Camry with 250,000 miles and no rust is proof of that.

Must have cursed myself talking about rain:sour: ! Went out for a small ride, maybe the last one of the year as they are calling for cold weather starting next week!:yikes: Figured would give it a good run, fill up the tank and put some fuel stabilizer in. Right after filling up it starting pouring, so yes I do ride in the rain;)and yes my brakes/rotors do get wet! :joke:Got home soaked (did not have my rain gear as it was not too long a ride) but still had a big smile! Hope everyone who has some riding left gets some miles in and those who ride all year, 😀enjoy the miles! Ride safe everyone!

I wash my spyder(s) on the weekends and always pay close attention to washing the wheels...getting the rotors/calipers/pads wet. It simply rinses off the brake dust, which contributes to the squeaking. I do about 200-350 miles each weekend, and I don't get squeaks unless I miss a weekend or 2. I am not disparaging the other methods/techniques..but this is the cheapest, easiest, and fastest way to alleviate the squeaking. An added bonus is that your spyder also get's washed/cleaned in the process (Assuming you're washing your ryde along with the wheel cleaning, that is).

There are no ill effects to getting these components wet, and your ryde will be squeak-free for sure.

Edited my original post, as it seems a lot of people do this! Guess I would not mind if my Spyder didn't usually sit for a week after washing! But it does, at least until retirement!
