Brake Squeak

I'm a member since 2009 and this is my first post. Constant reader and supporter.
Done 55000ks in NZ and this problem is surely one that BRP don't know how to fix economically. :dontknow: The truth is the rear pads do not release properly and continue to hold causing drag, heat and fuel costs. Check rear disk temp compared to fronts after a short ride. If someone can find a cure other than changing the caliper I'll be surpised and very very gratefull.

Cheers Yogi

Hi,

Any advice on how to quiet squeaking brakes ?

Only 550 miles on the bike...shouldn't be an issue with worn brake pads.

Thanks,

Ray

Just took mine apart today and applied disc brake quiet, time before was approx. yr. ago. Works great :2thumbs:

spoke with a fellow rider the other day and he claims, if you attempt to do the rear/front pads yourself , the Spyder will throw a code and requires a trip to the dealer. Did not have the time to go in depth with this issue. Any body else have info or ideas on this ???? Thanks.:gaah:

Thanks Guys Ive tried all the fixes on this page while they all work to some extent they do not overcome the real cause. The bloody caliper piston does not release properly. Embarising when travelling with Biker mates and you pull the "Old reverse out of the park" trick.:dontknow:

:hun: Not so,

Finally getting fed up with the squeak/squeal noise, here I am trying to find out what to do about it. Not long after I purchased my 2008 GS SE5 in March 2011 with almost 1500 miles on it, I asked about the squeal noise on here and someone suggested getting the 3rd generation pads. I disliked the idea of putting different pads on it, when it stopped on a dime and still does. For various reasons I have not ridden it much and just today noticed I have 2905 miles on it and 107 hours 16 months after purchase. However, my RED :spyder2: squeals when I touch it, well bump it or push it a little. Have y'all tried that CRC Disc Brake Quiet? I will say that getting caught in the rain this morning, splashing and getting splashed actually helped the noise a little. Poor RED. She has never been rained on at least not since I have owned her. The noise can be obnoxiously embarrassing, especially when pulling up to T.C.'s Front Porch, my favorite awesome seafood place, and a place where there are always several bikes parked. There has to be fix for this.

It works; but, only for a little while.

I have generation 3's on the rear only. The only time I get a squeal is when backing up. I also notice a reduction in noise after spraying the back brakes when washing the spyder.

You might try this trick, remove the pads, clean up the back side an apply a thin coat of silicone allow to set up for twenty minutes an reassemble. This put a barrier between the piston and brake pad which helps to eleminate the tranfer of vibrations. Made all the difference on my wife 08 rs. still will make some noise in reverse backing out of the garage, but thats about it.

I used the CRC on my 08, It worked but i got tired of applying it every time the Squeal came back,
SO i figured if i can afford an 18 thousand dollar toy i can surely afford the Gen 3 pads on all 3 wheels, That took care of the Squeal for good.

That's what CRC Disk Brake Quiet does, but it is designed to take the heat. Forget the silicone and use the product that was make to do the job. The application methods are the same.

forget the CRC, high temp silicone will last much longer without having to re-apply. been there done that. Just get things good an clean, an don't over apply.

I have never had to reapply the CRC DBQ on anything...and it does work well. Are you sure we are talking about the same product? CRC does make a disk brake spray that has to be reapplied frequently.

BTW, for Sunshyn, the Gen 3 pads already have a resilient backing, and they stop well.
