• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Brake pedal release leads to VSS Fault

adding LED bulbs this weekend. had rear up on car ramp. checked nanny reaction after each bulb swapped. only after bringing all 3 tires back to ground did this VSS fault appear. upon scouring this site for more information, I already have a new Main Relay on the way, but I also performed 3 key trick, where I turned it off/on 3x quick. mind you, foot was on the brake pedal, but the fault disappeared completely. and as soon as the brake pedal was released, immediately re-appears. like clockwork. repeatedly.

things that make you go "hmmmm"?

take the key away from the bike for a couple of minutes to allow the computer to reset. and then restart the spyder (might Work).

Try This....

Did you go out and ryde afterwards...? if you get the VSS code and the computer does not see that the problem has been corrected it may not cancel the code. I have had the VSS code for several move made while ryding but always cleared after ryding stopping and letting the computers reset with the key removed. If not you may have to have BUDS hooked up to see whats going on. Only other thing would be if your light installation has interfeared with the senors for the VSS..

If you changed the brake lights from incandescent to LED that could be causing the issue. What's bad about a Can-Bus system is that messing with one part of the Electrical system can cause issues in another completely different system.
Similar to how the gear position sensor going bad affects the power steering.

So, this is an older GS/RS? You had the rear wheel up on a ramp, but no mention that you spun it without spinning the front wheels. So, I'm leaning towards the light bulbs, also. There should be a code set. What is it? If it's C0040, then it's the new LED bulbs.

would resistors then make a difference?

Stop guessing and retrieve the fault code.

* With ignition switch on and engine running. Press MODE button repeatedly until "engine hours" (total hours) shows on display and do not release.
* Continue holding the MODE button while pushing the "flash high beams" button five times within 2 seconds.
* If there are no active faults "No Active Fault Code" will be displayed.
* If there is an active fault, an alphanumeric code will be displayed.
* If there is more than one active code, you may press MODE to cycle through them.

ONLY info I could garner was "LIMP HOME MODE"

Then you did not do it right or you don't have a GS or RS model.

1. What model and year is your Spyder?
2. Does your Spyder have the monochrome screen or color screen?
3. Was the engine running?
4. Did you get total engine hours on the display?
5. Where you still holding the mode button with total engine hours on the display, while pressing flash headlights button five time rapidly?

nothing "standard" in there. just searched "1157". 16 results. 12 are actual bulbs, labeled as "1157" LED Type

I believe if my sieved memory serves me properly you can do a bike specific search to narrow things down; could be wrong, frequently am

that is EXACTLY how I got started on their site... still, not just "1:1" options. on top of that, the bulb I got for rear turns was too big. thank you :)
