• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I have noticed that DOT 4 Brake fluid is getting hard to find, Why??

Can i put DOT4 Synthetic brake fluid in with the fluid that came from the factory???

is the factory fluid regular or synthetic, or do we even know??

Any knowledgeable help would be appreciated.

Yes DOT 4 and 4 synthetic will work togethter and with factory fluid. Do not ever mix or use silicone or DOT 5

Walmsrt
It's available all over the internet. I Just recently got my Castrol GT DOT 4 from Amazon.... It's on Ebay and many other sites as well. Walmart carries it if you need something locally.... :dontknow:

I always seem to need some on a Sunday when I’m in a small town and the auto parts stores are closed. They never seem to carry it at gas stations or truck stops so now I carry some in my trailer.

Advance Auto Parts, Auto Zone and Napa all list plenty of it online and do the usual asking for your location.

DOT

i recently changed out the brake fluid in my F3, and used DOT 4 that i bought at WALMARTS....

I did a ton of research most of which I've forgotten :doorag:. However, some of the takeaways I do remember .

That being there is no such thing as synthetic DOT4. It's just a marketing ploy that the Feds allow through tricks in the language and terminologies. The real difference is whether or not it is rated as LMA, which is "low moisture absorption". There are several brands that are readily available that are rated as DOT4 LMA, which is what is best for our application. DOT4 because of the formula absorbs more moisture than DOT3, which is one of the reasons they use DOT3 and not DOT4 brake fluid in automobiles, trucks, etc.

So, any DOT4 will work just fine, it's just the service/replacement interval will be shorter than recommended. Honestly, if on the road any DOT3 will work just fine in a pinch, it just has a low boiling point, which for 99.99999% of the time and riding conditions will never be an issue.

And even if you don't believe that.......anything that is marked DOT3/DOT4, which I think most of it is these days, will absolutely be fine for topping up.

You would think that as long as Hydraulic Brakes have been around that there would be a BETTER product developed for this market by now???

Since back in the early sixties I've been schooled in hydraulic drum brakes...then hydraulic disc brakes...then air drum brakes...and finally air disc brakes...also ABS hydraulic & air brakes...So I've been around the automotive and truck market all my life...

Do aircraft use hydraulic brakes??? Small & Big aircraft???
