• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Brake failure light

Hi, I'm new here and just bought a 2012 spyder RT with the comfort and convenience group. I was riding on sunday and my brake failure light came on. I checked the brake fluid and it is full, the brakes seem to be working fine, it looks like I have 1 1/2 mm to 2 mm pad life left all the way around, and the emergency brake is working fine. Any suggestions as to what might be going on, or how to reset the light? I have ordered a new set of pads just in case.

I was also looking for a set of long floorboards like Seal or Web they seemed like a good idea. I know Seal went out of business and I can't find anyone else with a product like that.

thanks for your help

Welcome and congrats on the spyder!

Is there a code along with the error?
Check the brake fluid level. You may need to add a small amount.

Welcome to Spyder World. Brake fluid level is something that is deceiving. You've noticed that the reservoir slopes downwards towards the front. The level sensors are those white plastic things in the rear of each chamber. So, even though the fluid level looks good, it can still trip the sensor, especially when stopping or going downhill, because the fluid sloshes towards the front. So, add just a little fluid in order to raise the float in the sensor to at least equal or just above the outer ring of the sensor. See pic.

Also, inspect the gasket in the cap. They expand out sometimes, and when they do, they interfere with the sensor. Just push the rubber back up into the cap. It will pop back into place.

Codes - When you have the brake failure code ACTIVE, or when any other problem is ACTIVE, you can call up the code by simultaneously depressing the MODE - SET - TURN SIGNAL CANCEL pushbuttons. The code will be displayed on the LCD display. You can do a forum search then and get information, or ask. BTW, the code for low brake fluid level is C0049

It is helpful to purchase a downloadable service manual for these things. For yours, it's only around 20 bucks. Google search. There are a couple of vendors for that. Green Manuals is one.

Because you are new to the Spyder, it will be helpful to read through this thread as it applies to the 998.

https://www.spyderlovers.com/forums...t-Do-s-and-Do-Nots-quot-for-new-Spyder-owners

If you need an owners manual, that is missing a lot of times with pre-owned machines, you can download one here. Just use the drop down menu in the upper left to navigate to 2012 RT.

https://www.operatorsguides.brp.com/Index.aspx?lang=E&s1=792d64bc-9944-4f44-9b19-822acd37f62b

And depending on the maintenance history of that machine, it will be helpful to you to search the forum and read up on replacing vacuum lines, spark plug wires, and doing a canisterectomy. All things that will keep you riding and not working on it. Be safe out there. Watch out for deer.

:agree: Most of the time just a cap full will stop the warning light from coming back!!! Good luck!!!!

Thank you for all the information. I will look to see if there is an error code. The fluid level is so high that it is almost overflowing and the floats are submerged. Was the previous owner trying to hide something? The bike runs very well except for dying at stop signs sometimes. The brakes work fine, is there a way to turn off the error message?

How many miles on her?? I shouldn't be dying!!

You can just put that code in the search and see what posts come up. May take some digging through unless someone replies to this post with more info.
