Brainerd Int raceway quartermile drags 2nd trip

I must say that there are many posts on these forums about several manufacturers exhausts for the Spyder coming apart. In fact, I only know of a couple exhausts that have not had complaints. I ride harder than most on these boards and now have 11K miles on my exhaust. The way you ride and/or the RPM's you run at should not cause an exhaust to fall apart!

And in another post you are surprised that you are blowing up your mufflers? :dontknow: To me, the implication is that you are pushing your Spyder past the normal limits regularly.

I say that and I get criticized by some trouble makers around here! :ohyea: You say that and it's cool....I'm jealous! :(

:dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow: I got seniority? :dontknow: :D Besides, I just posted that this morning, give it some time to get enough reads.

I'm not posting it to get people riled up but I just thought it was strange to have a thread questioning why his tailpipes are falling apart and then have another thread implying (IMO) that he runs his Spyder harder than anyone out there. Maybe the two are connected?

Seriously guys and gals, why are so many people looking to jab others on this board?

First off, as was stated by someone else already. Setho is putting aftermarket exhaust systems on his Sypder. Every one of those will say its for race purposes only and not to be used on the street. So Setho is using these exhausts for exactly their intended purpose as stated by their manufacturer.

Second, if you think that Setho has a fuel mixture issue thats causing backfires and inturn damaging the exhaust causing early failure, lets help him diagnose that and fix it instead of giving him crap and telling him he has not right to be upset that multiple racing exhausts are failing in what seems to be a premature fashion.

Third, what does any of the exhaust stuff have to do with this thread and why is it even being mentioned here? Setho took the time to video this stuff and post it to share with us.

I just dont understand people sometimes...

Okay, enough for me..gloves come off!

I am questioning whether, just perhaps, he's asking his bike to do more than it can handle? I don't see criticism in any of this...I don't know why people think that if you question something, you're criticizing someone...

You should read the other thread about SethO blowing up two pipes...this is what people are questioning...

Aftermarket products don't make your bike invincible...just because they're made for 'racing' or the 'track' doesn't mean that they have no limits.

I'm all for helping SethO continue his quest for ultimate speed...I'd love to know the top end on a Spyder and the fastest 0-60...I really like his video and his love for the Spyder...that's all good...

However, since we all want to help...maybe encouraging him to keep adding things is not the way to go...could any of this be dangerous?

Bottom line: speed is dangerous...whether it be with human performance or with machines.

We try to maximize performance but if we're blowing up pipes, maybe, just maybe, we should start questioning other things...anyone who sees this as a personal criticism is really not reading what some of us are posting...

bone crusher, I do aplogize for quoting you there. It was not my intent to single you or anyone out in particular, but rather point out what seems to be a trend for some posters on the forum.

There just seem to be some folks out there that are just waiting for the opportunity to call someone out on whatever and I just dont get that. Its like the bad girlfriend or wife or husband for that matter that remembers everything you say just so they can slap you with it sometime later.

If people want to discuss SethO's riding style as a possible cause of his seemingly premature equipment failure, then theres a great spot to do that... in the thread SethO talks and asks about his exploding pipes. But why bring it up here where the guy is doing nothing but sharing some video and inviting people out for a fun challenge at the drag strip. If you dont think its safe then I dont imagine you would except the challenge, but it looks like others are happy to. They are doing it at some drag strip so more power to them.

My final thought on this because now I am guilty of exactly what I am talking about is thread etiquette. SethO started this thread to talk about drag strip runs and speeds and now here we have turned the conversation to some debate that has nothing to do with SethO's subject. Thats just not cool and it fills this thread with crap that no one who opened it based on the title wants to read and now has to filter through.

On that note lets leave our egos and pride at the door and just enjoy chatting about the Spyder.

Sorry SethO about jacking your thread. It wont happen again.

No need to apologize...it's all good...it just appears to me sometimes that someone will post something and if anyone disagrees or has a different angle, they're being cruel/unjust/etc...I think open discussion is a good thing and I think most all of us here are good people looking to learn and help others.

With that being said, I'd like to see SethO's Spyder do 0-60 sub 4 seconds...and his 1/4 mile times continue to drop...of course, I'd like to see him be safe and fix whatever problem he has so that he can keep a pipe going!

Just woundering did you lower your rear tire air pressure for the runs? Also with the spyder loosing traction so easy Have you considered adding weight over the rear tire? And just for the heck of it try shifting at 6,500 or 7,000 rpm.
I had a friend of mine years ago that I swear had a dyno built in his pants. I had a BSA at the time and a bunch of us used to drag race. This one guy used to beat me all the time. Then this friend of mine road his bike and then mine. He said that my bike was a lot faster. Then this friend of mine raced him ( the guy I could never beat) with my bike and beat the other guy really really bad. I said what did you do. He said I just shifted when the power started falling off. I said at what RPM are you shifting at. He said I don't know I never looked at the tack. Well run him again and let me know the RPM you shift at. I said I shift at 9,000 to 9,500 Rpm it's still pulling hard at that rpm. Well he came back and said Race him and this time shift at 6,500 rpm. So I did and guess what I beat the hell out of that guy I could never beat before. Huh I said it still pulls hard at 9,000 rpm But not as hard as it does at 6,500. And that looks like where your torque peaks by the dyno chart. Give it a try.

I am running 20 psi the rear, and the problem with running the spyder is that isn't like a car or a bike plus the wide rear tire is very hard to put weight on. Also I was running it lower psi but it was not gripping the whole tire.
I was trying to short shifting idea today when I was dicking around before work and I am not sure that will work with the spyder. redline in 1st is 53, 2nd is 75ish, 3rd is 93 and 4th is 114 and Have of course not hit redline in 5th,130 on the speedo is all I have hit. the point of these numbers is that in a quarter mile am I going to hit 4th gear and not be able to hit a faster speed than I have. Don't get me wrong I will try it at the track just thinking about times.

Personal best in 1/8 miles:
R/T: .671
60' : 2.133
330: 3.584
1/8: 6.577
MPH: 81.06

Doc,

I've been on other forums (for cars) and typically the 1/4 mile times are less than double the 1/8 mile times. That would mean that you are in the 12's. Nice job
