So last night's post was a real downer for me. But things are not all bad. Yesterday a friend came over and we got the snowmobiles out so the kids could do hot laps around my back yard. My son has a Mini Z he rides. My friend George just bought his son a Kitty Cat to ride. My daughter, Marissa, was riding around on her 380F ski-doo. It was fun to watch the 2 boys "race" their miniature sleds. It was also good to see that when Connor (my son) would have an issue, Marissa would stop to help him. I stood there for hours on the back lawn watching them ride. It was probably the best Sunday afternoon I have had in a long time.
:trike:
One of the great things about Marissa is that she is so much more focused than I am. She is good at most everything she does, and if she isn't she is not shy about working at it. This year she got her snowmobile safety certificate and has quickly become my snowmobiling buddy. She is a natural on the trail. She also informed me the other day that when she gets old enough she wants to get her motorcycle permit so she can ryde. I admit, it almost brought a tear to my eye when she said that.
:2thumbs:
Then there is Connor. The 4 year old with good manners. When my wife picked him up from preschool a week or so ago the teacher asked if she could keep him. She was amazed at the fact that he answers questions with the phrases: "yes ma'am" and "no ma'am". He too has caught the riding bug. He ran his Mini Z out of gas twice yesterday, and still was not happy about being "forced to go inside to eat pizza". The poor boy has inherited my ADD, but was also blessed with a heart of gold.
Yesterday really put things in perspective for me. Sure my kids make mistakes and have bad days, but all kids do that. On one hand I cannot wait to see where the next ten years will take us. On the other I wish they could stay at this age and we could enjoy this a bit longer. Either way, I am not bummin anymore, and it is all because of the munchkins.
