:agree: totally.+1 on using spit to lube the 3 posts that hold those removable covers on. If they're deteriorating, then someone used a reactive lubricant that wasn't suitable for those. It may be best to replace those three rubber grommets with any new cover.
Others have mentioned Windex. You’re right about spit. That’s what my dealer recommended. SilverFox
Spit/Grease/W 40/Windex. Whatever works
You forgot Vaseline.....Works good too. I always use that on rubber bushing..
Package of spare grommets? Is that what you mean? Where do you get them?I keep a package of spares on the bike. They come two to a pack. I'm on my 3rd pack this year. Used one set myself and lent another to a fellow rider in need. Have the 3rd pack ready to go when needed.....
Many thanks. I have a credit with them that's about to expire so I think I'll go ahead and get them.Rubber Grommets AKA Oval Washer P/N 705000321 Cheap Cycle parts sells 4 packs for $4.36 Same Grommets used on all years of all Spyders

Strangely enough, you can find that same part for SeaDoo's, and Outlander and Renegade ATV's though they get progressively more expensive.
The problem with that is if it stays on the grommet then just the way the grease makes it easier to push the pins through, rough riding or whatever makes it easier for the panels to fall off. That's why you want to use spit or Windex or similar. The pins go in easy, then when everything dries out, the come out hard. Those panels have fallen off some machines!
