• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Blue Tint in Headlights

Does anyone else have an issue with the outer edge of the head light beam having a blue tint? About 50% of the time I ride at night I have a car in front of me pull over because they think I'm a cop.

Wish I had...

blue tint in my headlights. The headlights I see with the blue tint are much brighter.

What year is your spyder and did you change your headlight bulbs? My 08's and the 09 all have a slight yellow tint even when I have just washed them.

You must have H.I.D. lights installed as anything above 6000 has a blue tint and the higher you go they get a purple tint.

lol. yea that’s happen to me too. it's the H.I.D. headlights and fog lights. I believe they only come standard on the phantom model. It’s nice when everyone moves out the way.

Nope, they just want to look at the Spyder go by!!

Nope, I don't have HID's, but I did replace the bulbs with Silverstars. I've even had people I meet pull off to the side as I meet them, they definitely think I'm the cops.

Silverstars definitely put out a bluish white light, and are very bright as well. They may be worried about you blinding them, or think it is an alien space ship. :ohyea:

pull up to a white wall or garage door in the dark. By nature the projectors have an area that is subject to a little flaring. Look at the light on the wall and look to the edges of it and you'll see a line of different color.
The folks with standard bulbs will see a line of yellow/amber, your Silverstars will show a hue of blue and the HIDs will vary depending on what Kelvin temp is being used.

Projectors are also very focused and have a strong cut off line. Not just on the Spyder, I mean projectors in general. If you're lights are lined up properly that flair line will sit below the view of rear view mirrors. As you hit bumps in the road, accelerate and decelerate that flair line will rise and fall. In the right combination, it will appear as if you are flashing blue, then your high beams and then back to normal. This is also how people sometimes think you are flashing your high beams.

This flair is also what you see in cars when they come around a corner or over a hill and first their lights look blue but then twinkle to pure white.

edit;
oh yeah, one more thing. I take this one step further and intentionally set my right side a few degrees higher than my left. Both headlights and fog lights. This creates a wink effect as my right side flairs before my left. It makes me more visible in dark traffic.

I get that more from my fogs than my headlights. I also have the halogen motolights down on the wheels, and they will flash blue going over bumps.

I've never noticed that I've pulled anyone over other than Doc thinking a TN state trooper was coming up behind us when we were heading to Lamont's from the Dragon.

All the bulbs like 'silverstars' just have tinted glass--- they are no brighter at all... actually they don't put out as much light because of the tinting. If you want more light you have to go with HID's.

I've had people I was following ask me if I was flashing my lights at them--- because of the nature of the projectors - when the Spyder hits bumps the light tends to 'jump' up and down a bit more than standard lights.
