• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I assumespeakers are not covered under the extended warranty. But my front right speaker is toast.
how difficult is it to replace the speaker?

They are "right there"; but getting the the bits and pieces that mount them and hook them up aren't...
Bruiser just upgraded some of his speakers; you might want to ask him about it...

Don't be so sure the speaker is not covered by your BEST plan because it is. I think there is a bit more involved than popping a cover and 4 screws to replace. If you are not comfortable doing the body parts removal yourself, the $50 deductible for your BEST claim may be worth it. Need anything else fixed? Just one deductible for a trip to the dealer, even if you have multiple problems to be addressed.

:agree: The BEST warranty covers the same things as the original Spyder warranty. Since speakers are not a 'wear item', they should be covered.

Anyone put these in?

I wonder how much improvement? The stock ones are not very good.
BTW: BRP, why can you not simply uno 4 screws, and unplug a wire to change out? seems very poorly designed if not.

The simplest solution for the customer should be the best.

the front grills just pop off and the speaker is right there

The speaker is right there but not as accessable as it may seem, you have to remove more than the speaker cover in order to replace the speaker. Example: the rear tire is right under the fender.:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

FYI and I know this is an older post.
You can pretzel the stock speakers out through the grills, I was able to do it!
But no way in hell are you going to get the J&M speakers back in that way.
What a job to get those in! You have to basically remove the entire top of the dash, cluster, glovebox, windshield motor, etc.
I am not looking forward to this job!
These speakers better be worth it!

I can answer you questions:
  • Unless you install an amp the J&M Speakers are only a marginal improvement at best. A little better sound quality, no real volume increase.
  • To replace you will have to pull the body side panels and then loosen the glove box and dash to allow you to get to the screws for the speakers.

  • Remove 4 plastic rivets, and 4 #10 bolts
  • Remove the one torx bolt that secures the dash at the front of the front just below the speakers
  • You can now lift the dash high enough to get to the speakers from below the dash allowing reasonable access to the screws and to slide the speakers in and out. I did it a lone but a help would be nice.

  • The front speakers are 5 1/4 marine rated. They have a built in tweeter.
I just did a speaker/amp install on my 14 so very up to speed on this :)

I was able to get the 4 speaker screws out reaching through the speaker grill.
I used a Chapman offset wrench that will hold a torqs bit.

I did get the stock speaker out through hole. A bit of a Chinese puzzle but you can do it.

Today I am going to put in the J&Ms. THANKS for the tips about coming through the side panel!
I read the instructions and they want you to strip the entire top of the dash area off!
Good to know it can be done easier.. Again thanks for the tip. I am going to start in about 1 hour.

Hey, I got that Chapman set years ago as a Xerox Tech as you know. Have you ever seen them anywhere else?
I would like to get another set but I have yet to see them at any tool store!
