Block heater

Is there such a thing for a spyder? I live in NE Montana and it gets well below freezing here and stays for weeks at a time here. I plan on keeping the spyder in the garage all winter and short Ryder's around town when weather permits.... But would a block heater be a good thing or even such a thing?

I've never heard of one being offered for a Spyder.
If you've got a 998 bike; you have a separate oil tank. Perhaps there's something in the aftermarket that can be added to it.
(I think that the 1330s are a bit different...)

I have lived in Bridgeport California for the last 4 years and we get -20 degrees here at night and stay at 10 to 15 degrees during the day
Sometimes for a week at a time
It is below freezing almost all winter
I keep my :ani29: in an unheated garage and have a battery tender hooked up
I do ride when ever there is no snow on the road
I have not had a problem

if it is going to be in a garage, get a small propane heater and hook it up with a tank of gas just to keep the garage at a decent temperature, but i also just keep my bike hooked up to a tender and that's all

I guess if you just want to shorten the warm up, then you could go with
an external device. Much like an oil pan heater for a tractor. With the F3
you might see enough engine to make that work.

If you are just thinking about winter storage... I wouldn't worry, just go with the
battery tender that we all use. These ARE made in Canada after all.

I guess you could bring your spyder in by the fireplace.

wrap it in a thermal blanket and that will keep it safe. You could heat the area before starting if your still below freezing. Only block heater would be a heating pad..:roflblack:

a magnetic heater on the oil tank or anywhere steel metal on motor or the hose style if you can find a long place in the hose or with thin synthetic oil and a tender it should start fine

Run an extension and put a 100 watt bulb on the floor under the engine. That should keep the oil warm enough to allow you to spin the engine without much trouble. That plus a battery tender or a battery blanket to keep the electrolyte warm should do the trick.

I did this for a few years on an old Hillman Minx when I lived in Winnipeg for a few years and it when it got to be 10 below for several days at a time, it always started

If you try to do the light bulb trick, make sure you use the old fashion incandescent type and not the new CFL or LED, they probably would not give off enough heat.

Might be hard to find a 100 watt incandescent bulb if you don't already have one. I don't think anyone in the US is making them anymore.

Actually the LED will give off heat. Not the light itself but the transformer that drops the voltage down. Look at the LED spotlights that go in the ceiling, they require an airspace because of the heat the put out. Just my 2 cents...

Not quite that cold down here in LA but when it does get close I've made use of my drop lights & put under hoods & or oilpans @ night good ol 60W bulbs nothing fancy, has msnaged to keep my ride to work ready when I needed it. On all sorts of motors fron desil,V8's & straight 6. Only block heaters iv needed were for emergancy generators needing instant RPM & HP. Know some can be picky with the antifreeze some corode faster or thicker. No clue what else it could affect a spyder. Plz share if you go that route & learn something. Thx
