• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. After 2,350 trouble free miles the bug found me. After backing out of the driveway and moving into first (SE5) I wanted to go back into reverse but no dice, the tranny refuses to move out of first gear and engine revs up and down if I try shifting. Can't go into N or R and at this point afraid to go anywhere to see if it shifts past 1st. Tried shutting down and restarting to no avail even after removing the key. Put the :spyder2:on the trailer and take it to the dealer about 16 miles from home. Here's where the fun starts. Take it in Tuesday the 19th and get a call on Thur. afternoon the 21st that they cannot help me. What do you mean, I ask. Well it seems they had a mutual parting of the ways with BRP over just how many Spyders they should floor plan. BRP says 20 but due to coming layoffs at the space center the dealer says they will only want 7-8. BRP says not good enough so they agree to not be a BRP dealer any longer. Back to the dealer with the trailer and now bring it to Daytona Fun Machines about 55 miles. They have it since Friday the 22nd and after much discussions via telephone with BRP they send a part to fix the problem. Phone call from the dealer yesterday, I figure it's come pick up the baby, nope...the part did not work. Here we are now with the dealer and BRP scratching their heads and me with no :spyder2:. Just when you think you may have heard all the stories that sound silly here I am posting this. I told the dealer to ask BRP if I have to choose the same color for the replacement unit or not. ;) Anyone else ever hear of this problem? Dealer says they never saw this and being in Daytona have seen many :spyder2: come and go :gaah:.

Tom, musicarcade, had an issue with the shifting on his Spyder that sounds very similar to what you are experiencing. His also sat at the dealer for a long time with them working with BRP in order to troubleshoot and repair it. I cannot remember what the final remedy was, but you may want to send him a PM and ask him about it. Give him a link to this thread as well, and hopefully he will post the answer in here for everyone to see.

Best of luck getting yours repaired and back on the road soon.

I had to think a bit about the remedy for my :spyder:.
After a try or two they ended up replacing the DESS module, so I had to send them my spare key to reinitialize it. After I got it back it would occasionally not want to go into gear while ryding, and then the replaced a paddle shifter..

It's been running fine ever since....:doorag:

I haven't seen 20 Spyders at any dealer yet.:hun: I was at was is suppose to be the #1 dealer in the country and they only had about 5 I think and that was in the middle of the season. Something doesn't smell right with that story. You have to go further now but maybe that is going to be better for you in the end.
Lots of times you won't see the inventory. It may be in crates in the warehouse, or some may be ordered, but not yet received. Quotas are usually annual numbers. It is common practice in the powersports and motorcycle industries, and has caused other dealers to give up a line, switch brands, or close altogether.

Thanks Tom. I am also glad to hear it is still running well for you.

Had the same problem this summer. It was a bearing in the transmission. Took about 10 days to repair, but runs great now. Good luck.

Did you try shifting it manually with a 13 mm wrench? See page 102 in your owners manual. I have had the tranny stick on my SE5 the odd time and this always seems to get me going again.

Even though they had a parting of the ways one would think the dealer who sold it and BRP would have an obligation to you through the warrenty period at least, or am I missing something.

Would think the dealer would have done that if it worked. Unfortunately 2 more parts have been shipped one is a clutch assembly they should have the parts Wed. or Thurs. They have been in contact with BRP and they think this fix should work. Keeping my fingers crossed.

BRP apparently has dissolved the agreement between them and agreed to take back all the Spyders they had in stock. So that's why they will not do the warranty work since BRP no longer considers them a dealer and won't pay them for the service. Funny thing is I guess they buy the BUDS machine they are keeping it, the dealer said they can diagnose but not do warranty work. They can do regular maintenance since their tech is trained and I assume repair work when no warranty is involved...but then again I bet BRP won't send them parts.

Would think the dealer would have done that if it worked.---Well,
maybe---maybe not. I've seen professional mechanics skip the obvious and proceed with expensive repairs before. At any rate, for the few minutes it takes to check, I would certainly have done so before calling a tow truck. Good thing to keep in mind for next time.

Three weeks to the day I have my :spyder2: back. Apparently there is no sense of urgency with BRP when sending parts to the dealer. No Fedex just regular shipping....let the customer wait.

Good news is I was very impressed with the dealer Daytona Fun Machines. They were informative and very receptive to my update calls. Extremely courteous too. Nice to know since my closest dealer and BRP parted ways that this dealership which is only an hour and 15 mins away can be relied upon to get the work done. I would recommend them for anyone near the area or going through.

It sure is nice to have :spyder2: back.
