• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Don't give up riding

Bill:

Do not give up on riding completely! Once you recover a bit more give it some thought.

My wife got wiped out 32 years ago by a truck coming over a hill on the wrong side of the road and spent more than a year in rehab. She was on a full dress Suzuki GS 1000 that was totaled. Her injuries included lots of broken bones and severe nerve damage as the c-5 and c-6 nerve trunks evulsed (pulled out) of her spinal column resulting in paralysis on her right arm. She can move the hand and fingers and has some limited shoulder movement but that is it.

Over the years she has learned to be left handed in things like eating and dressing. She got back on a bike (a scooter) a few years after the accident and ultimately graduated to a 400 cc bike. Once she saw the Spyder she knew that was for her.

She now drives a Spyder RT-SE5 and takes it everywhere. Once her hand is on the throttle and bars, that supports her arm and she can ride in relative comfort. We have taken several trips together (I have a Gold Wing trike) and her daily range is about 350 miles before the shoulder begins to fatigue.

If you don't use the arm the muscles will begin to atrophy so riding the Spyder is a good way to keep them in shape.

I hope you get back into riding again.

get better bud, there was a post about converting everything to the left hand if it gets to that, don't let those doctors tell you that you can't get better, you can do whatever you put your mind to.

+1 Very well said from a man who knows.

We'll be praying that you heal and get better soon so you can enjoy life whether you are on your Spyder or not. But, we all hope that arm gets better and you are able to get back on that Spyder and keep riding. Hang in there, Bill.

I just thought some of would care to know where I have been . . .

It was a wonderful 15,000 miles . . .

Bill, like everyone else, you have my best wishes.

Add to that a large dose of admiration and respect - while we will never know it as a fact, and while your actions resulted in you receiving serious injuries, they probably saved the life of another person. In moments like you faced, when the biker rode into your path and with only instants to react, you did the BEST and BAVEST thing that any of us are capable of - naturally, because that is the kind of person you are.

In my book, that makes you a real hero.

I'm glad you are still with us, but I am sorry to hear about all the pain and loss you are suffering, you deserved better and at least another 15,000 miles.

Please stay in touch.

Tom

Bill, doctors have been wrong before. With faith, hard work and prayer, anything is possible. So let us pray for the best and thank God you are alive and so is the cyclist. I am so sorry this had to happen, heal well and heal fast.

sorry to hear about the trouble and hope you get better soon, dont give up doctors are not alwas right you can get better and ride agin i know i had the docs tell me 18 years ago i was diying fron cancer but here i am riding and still having fun they was wrong and they can be wrong with you.keep the fath and live how you want.

Bill, real sorry to hear of your accident and subsequent problems. Everyone has said very wise things of your accident and rehab. I encourage you to "work your tail" off in rehab. The body can recover from some pretty amazing damage. Doctors tell you the worst possible scenario to protect themselves. I know that if you work hard, you can defy their predictions.

I wish you the very best in whatever you want to do in the future. We are family and you have been one of us. Keep us posted on how you are doing and in what direction life takes you. All the best.

Bill! Sorry to hear about your accident. You will be in my prayers. Keep this in mind. Doctors tend give you the worst prognosis possible. This way, you work a lot harder just to prove them wrong. I had a bad accident at work in 1998. I was off work for 15 months. Six months and seven specialists after the accident, the prognosis was to amputate my left leg at the knee. It simply would not heal and it did look like it was dead. (black and blue, but mostly black like cangarine would look like). I didn't let them do it and told them I would come out of this. With a ton of rehab (and prayers I'm sure), I still have my leg. I don't run in marathons, don't climb ladders, there's a lot of things I had to give up but I can still walk with a cane but, most of all, I will still be able to ryde my Spyder. Hope you can prove them wrong Bill. Keep thinking positive no matter what. Good luck.

Don't cash in those chips just yet Bill!

:agree: Nice words dltang!
Hey Bill. Certainly do not cash in those chips just yet. Miracles and good things happen to people all the time. I know people who have experience miracles and I am a living, breathing miracle myself. Almost died at the age of 4 from Encephalitis.

having totalled a bike on Dec. 20, 2010; I feel damn fortunate to have scrambled up to my feet, with only a sore butt to show for it. yours was a very simple accident, by comparrison to many others. too many bikers never make it. you have... and you are lucky.

best wishes to a full recovery. mine was a cake walk, compared to yours.

Bill, I was shocked and SO sorry to read of your accident.
Many others have said it better than I can-
I wish you the best and hope you recover to ryde another day.
Hope to hear from you here on spyderlovers....

Bill, what a dose of reality. I think I sometimes I forget about the risks because I feel so secure on the :spyder2:.

I hope you get well soon.

Hey Bill!! I think someone is looking for you on another forum. Spydertalk.com. Something about you winning a BRP Voucher!!!

Thoughts and prayer our to you Bill, keep pushing to get stronger every day.

Like many of the folks on here have said, the doctors can be pessimists. Fool them all and get back on that Spyder!

I'm very glad you're still with us- 3Tracs

Bill...I'm sorry to hear of your misfortune but, as I always say when I hit the wall, it could've been worse. As bad as it was, when you're on the grass it's always better to look at the blades and not the roots.

I look forward to seeing you soon. Maybe the Owners Event?

Sorry for your accident, the spyder is just a toy, your what's important and we are glad that your still around. Just don't give up on getting better. I have seen countless people whine poor me and never regain any function after their accidents. The people who don't always do much better. Take care Bill
