In the past few months I have been paying more attention to this and this is (so far) what I have seen in trends -

- in packs - likely to not get a wave back - occasionally the first or the last only will wave. But had two H-D groups pass our group and 100% of them waved back

- Without helmets or two-up on anything - wave return ratio drops

- If I toss out the wave with more distance yet between us, the wave return ratio goes way up

- Young guys on metrics appear to return or even initiate waves more often than HD guys. They also appear to wear helmets more in this area (so pick the relational operator that works best here - young?, metrics?, helmets???).

- IF passing another :spyder2: someone is likely to fall off as the return salutes are far more animated than the usual "v-twin wave!"

Oh, and dudes on scooters - never even look at us usually

If I see another biker, regardles of what they ride, if it doesn't interfere with the safe operation of my bike at the time, I'll either wave or nod my head. Dale

That is a pretty comprehensive and funny list!! Thanks for the grins:clap::roflblack:

I ride with a couple of buddies who have Harley's and get waves all the time, when I am alone very view waves. I cant help but laugh

When we stop for gas or to eat....It doesn't matter what I ride.... either of my 2 tricked out Valkyries, or the Harley Electra Glide.... folks walk past me like I am invisible , to get a look at Flamingobabes' Spyder.... She's a Rock Star...
Some wave... some don't.... no big deal !!!
The invisible hotglue....:ohyea:

Hotglue you sound just like my husband. He is always saying that people push past his custom V-Rods just to ask about the Spyder. As for waving I wave to everybody sometimes even to scooters.

I've waved to all other riders since the '70s. I have noticed, here in Florida, that since I've started riding my Spyder, more riders without helmets, and, unfortunately, often on HD's, don't wave back. I've actually seen people tilt their noses up!

:shocked::D

That being said, most riders who have full faced helmets like mine wave back and almost every trike rider out there waves back.

On the other hand, whenever I stop somewhere where there are a lot of HD's, many of the riders come over and ask me questions about the Spyder. Rarely get anything negative.

I rode my Harley today and every HD rider waved... along with quite a few others.

When I am on my Spyder they don't wave so much.

I assume they have no idea what else I may own or ride...

Overall, I too wave or nod at most anyone riding or having fun in any vehicle -- even farmers on their tractors.:D

it's kinda evolving...

I get positive waves or thumbs up from 9 out of 10 two wheelers I meet. 90% ain't bad. I think it's part of the evolution of a new form of transportation that we're gonna get some ignoring or some negative reactions.Truth be known, 99% of those who don't react positively are simply envious. As more and more Spyders are seen on the roads, we'll be better accepted into the bugs on the teeth riding genre. I ran into a couple of Harley 1 %'ers a couple of weeks ago and they both complimented the Spyder and said "We'll see you on one in a few years." Like I say, 90% ain't bad...Oh, and I rode Harleys and Yamahas 40 years.

As a side note, I took my Harley today to a dealer friend to help me sell it. It was a bitter sweet moment as I rode it a mile one last time. I had not ridden it since I got the Spyder five months ago. The ride was strange but sweet but when I finished and tapped a finger kiss on the tank to say goodbye, I felt better :bowdown:smoky

I too will probably sell my Harley some day... just not yet.

Along the lines of this thread... I have met a lot great people through the years at motorcycle rallies and etc. However, I am finding some are not as "welcoming" to the Spyder as I thought they would be.

For instance... I received an email from a guy I have ridden with who lives in southern Indiana. His post basically said: "You and your Harley are welcome to join us on a ride to Maggie Valley". Obviously, this post made it clear I was invited if, and only if, I rode my Harley. I took offense to the invitation, and declined to attend based on that alone. There are other instances similar to this one as well.

Maybe they just are not the "friends" I thought they were; or simply are not confident enough about themselves to accept something that is not the "norm".

Oh well...

What I am getting excited about is meeting more people on Spyders. I have a few people locally (some on this site) that have been very "welcoming" to join them on rides and gatherings. I have all intentions of doing so, if only they'll have patience with me in getting my schedule aligned to do so.:ohyea:

I'm thinking that they're hitting on you and Flamingobabe...:lecturef_smilie:

I am used to HD people not waving and or giving me the snub, and that is when I am on my vrod. When I was on my street glide they all acted like they knew me. Traded the SG for the Spyder so now no matter what I mostly get the snub. One thing I found while on a trip to Arkansas with 3 HD guys, let them ride it and they can't get that stupid grin off their face when they bring it back. I let 5 different people ride it and they all came back and said "oh now I get it, this thing is a blast"

Just finished a ride through West Va., North Carolina, Tennessee and Kentucky and got more waves in every state than I could respond to! I got waves from every kind of bike ~and~ from people in cars and on foot!

This is us, too.
We do lots of waving.

When I'm out by myself people mowing lawns wave, folks in other vehicles wave, other bikers wave, kids outside playing. It's a near constant thing. :D

I have told the husband that I need one of these:

:agree:
You can't explain it. Once the bars have been in tjheir hands; then it all makes perfect sense! :2thumbs: :ohyea:

Why Spyder Ryders don't wave back
10. You just gave them an obscene gesture
9. You caught them accelerating out of a stop light and their hand was still on the clutch
8. They had to wake up their passenger to tell them to wave too.
7. If they take their left hand off the grip, they'll never be able to get it back so that they can find the right buttons for all of the functions.
6. They were playing with the windshield height adjustment and didn't notice you...
5. You called their machine a "scooter"
4. They were riding their "trike" backwards, and people don't have eyes in the back of their head.
3. They haven't had their DPS replaced yet and don't want to let go of anything "just in case"
2. They were too busy talking to all the people asking about their Spyder.
1. Despite all the above, they probably still waved
