• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Got a motel for the night, went out to eat, riding back the throttle quit working. Engine ran fine, just doesn't rev. It seems like a throttle problem. My real problem is that I'm in Winona, MS and the closest dealer is in Memphis, 117 miles away. Anyone know of something I might try to get it to run enough to get to Memphis?

Check..!!

at the throttle grip (two screws )check and see if the cables are working. If possible remove side panels and see if cables are actuating the throttle body.. Seems the likely culprit. Hopefully just disconnected..good luck..!!

RT is "fly by wire".....no cables.

Keep shutting it off and restarting, to see if maybe it will catch. If not, you will need a tow. Pressing MODE, SET, and turn signal cancel at the same time will bring up the failure codes, but I'm guessing your throttle positioner went south.

Thanks Scotty. I have restarted it, no change, it's also loked in gear, won't return to neutral.

You can put it into neutral manually with a wrench, following the instructions in your manual. If it won't go into neutral, it shouldn't start and run? Any fault codes?

If Scotty is correct and it is the Electronic Throttle Actuator (As BRP calls it) It may appear to be locked in gear because it is unable to blip the throttle after start to assist with the shift.

That was kinda my guess, but I wasn't sure just how those new-fangled SE's worked. :)

Sounds like what mine did when throttle body went out last year. After about 30 mins of key on, key off and remove the key it started and the throttle worked the rest of the day.

Tried all suggestions, no luck, also no error codes. Guess I'm in for an expensive tow. The bike has 100 free miles of towing, but AAA claims the trailer isn't covered. AAA has been terrible. I bought the Plus Motorcycle option, but that doesn't cover a motorcycle in all areas, only Florida where I bought it, even though I specified that I travel on my bike and need towing coverage. What a joke. I will cancel AAA as soon as I work out any reimbursements.

First real problem with the bike in over 23K miles, but it really left me stranded when it decided to crap out!

mine did the same thing the first I took it out after buying. Turned out to be loose negative at the battery. Go figure.........

hey mangoMike: Did u get your Spyder fixed or did u have to tow it???? That's sad when u r so far from home :(

I got in touch with Mike. He's in Memphis. He had his spyder and trailer towed there. Originally the dealer in Memphis thought it was throtle body problems. That was going to take two days to have it shipped. However, after second inspection and analysis, they felt it may be transmission got stuck. They, the dealer, was supposed to work on that, ride the spyder to make sure and hand it over to Mike. Hopefully Mike will be out of Memphis by tomorrow.

Spyder is down for the count. A transmission shaft is stripped and will be a major repair. Rented a full size pick-up and put the trailer on it to haul it back to Florida. Have arranged for a shipper to pick up the bike next week and deliver it to Motorsports of Tampa.

We are leaving this morning and should be home by Saturday evening.

Everyone has been very supportive and generous. The costs have been kept low (got a great break from both FRS Powersports and Enterprise Car Rental. There are many kind and caring people, not least of whom are on SpyderLovers. Thank you for your kind thoughts and offers of assistance. Your support kept me going when things seemed hopeless.

If it's the main shaft and front sprocket that is stripped, That is a major repair. Is it still under warranty?
Mine went out at 19 thousand miles two months out of the warranty [Gs 08] They had to split the engine apart to fix the shaft, Hope that's not the problem with yours.?

I have an extended warranty so I don't anticipate a problem. Did they ever determine what caused the problem with the shaft? Do you still ride the bike?

Insurance company and towing coverage?

You may want to talk to your insurance agent too -sometimes full coverage policies can help pay some of the tow bill as well. Just a thought.

Hang in there.
