Bigger wheels

I know this has been talked about all over but I can't seem to find a definitive answer.

If I put bigger wheels on the front, will there be any calibration I have to do to avoid errors etc. Will my speed be incorrect? I know I can put up to 17" with 35 series tires and maintain relatively the same overall size as the factory 14s but What if I wanted to put 18s or 20s?

I see it done all over the Internet but to answers that I can find

You can do pretty much anything you want as long as you put all the sensors on the same wheel. But it is a very dangerous and highly NOT recommended. In other words. Buy life insurance first.

So are we saying that all these people I see online with bigger aftermarket wheels are making there spyder unsafe? I should just stick with the factory wheels then?

The VSS will easily manage wheel/tire rolling dia increases totalling up to 20mm without any problems, just so long as you increase ALL the tire diameters by close to the same amount. The VSS/nanny can handle minor variations in rolling dia, they have to be designed to be capable of managing them & still operate safely within perceivable tire pressure variations, puncture situations etc; but make the size change too much or go too big on one end & not the other, & the designed parameters are exceeded/upset & the nanny gets real twitchy real fast!! :yikes:

Should be OK! :thumbup:

But the the nanny will start to get uncomfortable if you go too much over that 20mm dia increase, it changes the CoG & roll centre of the Spyder too much if you do!! Altho you may be able to overcome that issue if you relocate the main roll/yaw sensor that's mounted on the main frame spar.... I haven't bothered yet, the 20mm increase has been good enough so far!

. ....Things to consider, the space available for the rear tire ( no matter the size of the wheel ) is 215/60-15 anything larger than that tire size ( height, width, ) is going to scrape things like the belt or swing arm......If you go with 20 inch custom wheels with a 30 aspect ratio .....they are going to ride like they are made of concrete......................best wishes ......Mike :thumbup:

I am not planning on doing anything with the rear wheel.
Looks like if I stick with 17" up front with 35 tires, that is only a diameter increase of 12 mm or so. This should work ok and still be safe it seems.

Should not create any issues as long as you can stand the harsh ride. Fenders may need some modification.

:agree: Less sidewall, means less ability to soak up the road surface irregularities...
