On my RT, I went for the simple approach and ran the Gerbing cable out the same hole the passenger saddle sensor wire goes. I zip-tied it to that cable so I wouldn't lose it if I tuck the Gerbing cable into the hole while not in use. When I want to use it, I just pull it out the left side between the saddle and body panel. It is hooked directly to the battery & has a 15 amp inline fuse on the positive side, near the battery connection. By the way, I have two of them installed. I also use them for my battery charger and have a variety of other adaptors I can plug into them to allow me to use it for whatever I need.
This setup also keeps the wires away from the exhaust, so heat is not an issue.
