Best Hard Luggage

To bjt

Hi, looking at your setup appears to be just about what i had in mind, thanks for the pics..

So it looks as if you have industries 7 frame, but which model no. bags please.

Thanks.
john.

Here's a few

OK, Brian, now you're just torturing us with those old "Ooo, look--I guess I should mow my lawn after we come back from our day-long ride" photos! :joke:

i have been comparing the two set os bags as well and was wondering if anyone with the givi coupld post some pics of them on the :spyder:the only pics i seen always show the :spyder:from a side view...what does it look like from a front and rear view?

Here is another rear and front view of the Givi bags and topbox:

GIVI are a good buy but>>>>>

>>>>>Already have the color matched Corbin bags on m;y wish list. Though more expensive than other systems I figure that since I only get a little better milage than my Forester I should be able to carry a week's worth of shoping! Will add SatRad and SatNav but probably will forego an Air Bag System.

I like the way the Corbins fit in close and look part of the Tryke. Also the top loading are better for shoping with lift out liners or tote bags so quick removal is not needed. I have always had top loading bags so am used to them and trust them not to throw things all over the road. Don't plan on much more than weekending but I still feel Iktome is only half dressed. Looks like the time my Brother went out on the Dance Ground with his fine new leggings but forgot his Loincloth! The Corbin bags really do finish it out.

Don't let him fool you John, that photo is from this summer, we would have to dig deep to find the grass right now, let alone mow it.

Ha!

I knew you guys were d e e p into winter just like us, Deb, so he didn't fool me this time...

Although I wondered if you had given up northern life for a plot o' land in Crawford, Texas for a minute...that is, til I saw Brian's old shield and my old Beadrider! (Didn't you guys take off the Hindles, too?!)

Predicting 15 below fahrenheit + wind again here tonight. Stay warm and thumb through those BRP, GIVI, and Corbin catalogs...

I still have my Hindle, Brian took his off and now has the Slider by Marcel for his windshield. It is getting cold here again. I thought I was going to be able to ride for a bit after work today but last night we got hit with just a dusting of snow and the temps dropped rapidly. As you well know, that makes for some slick roads. I am bound and determined to get a short ride in before the end of this month though. I haven't been out once in Jan. it is killing me.

thanks

thanks for the pics while corbin do have a different look these look pretty darn good and iwth the ability to pop them off and head into a hotel room with them really make them worth a hard consideration.....thanks again i appreicate the pics:yes:

I don't think the usual center of gravity issues that affect two wheelers is the same on the Spyder. Also, for those of us concerned about the Spyder load limit of 740 lbs for two up riding, I think you gain a slight advantage with the Givi set up as the Corbin bags have to be heavier to begin with and if loaded quite a bit heavier.

Additional weight on the back does change the handling characteristics of the Spyder - that is why there is the passenger sensor switch under the seat.

So you don't think there would be a difference in the center of gravity between this...

Givi versus Corbin is a matter of personal taste and I'm still pretty sure that with the three wheel design of the Spyder, the center of gravity difference between Givi and Corbin would be impossible to feel. I ordered the Givi and they are to be shipped next week, so I hope they don't affect center of gravity since I will be top heavy with about $1,000 extra in my wallet.

Yes, any weight on the back does change the handling and suspension characteristics of any vehicle. It is not necessarily a significant change, however, as long as it is within the stated load limits. The passenger sensor changes the Electronic Brake Distibution braking bias, not the handling. That is what changing the shock preload is for. The sensor cannot detect weight which is not on the seat. Since nobody has reported braking problems while carrying a load instead of a passenger, I think we can safely assume that any change is acceptable within normal riding limits. If you ride (and brake) on the edge all the time, you may want to worry....otherwise you're probably OK.

As to differences in the center of gravity between a load spaced an inch or two wider or higher, that effect should be fairly negligible on a three-wheeled vehicle. You can do an engineering analysis and show the effects of more weight toward the rear, or weight farther from center, but the center of momentum would be unlikely to change enough to create instability. The VSS will kick in before that happens, anyway. Pick what you like, and ride as always. Even an unbalanced load from side-to-side is not as big a problem as on a two-wheeler.

Yep, Industries7 frame but at the time I bought it the company was called Thiebault Engineering. Those are V35 bags.

First off, my point of view on the Corbin vs. GIVI debate is everyone should get what works for them. I personally don't like the looks or the cost of the Corbin bags and I tired of messing with the soft bags (Cortech, Nelson-Rigg, etc.) so I got the GIVI's. I really like the ability to easily remove the bags and I don't think the rack without the bags on it stands out too much or looks really bad.

I think the center of gravity could potentially be affected a lot more by the Corbin bags (50 liters per side) than the GIVI bags (34 liters per side) because they are much larger and could hold more stuff. If you loaded 50 liters of stuff in one Corbin bag and left the other one empty, you are probably affecting the COG. That same 50 liters of stuff would have to be split between the two GIVI bags, bringing the COG back towards the midline of the Spyder.

Plus, I have a feeling that the empty GIVI's and rack weigh less than the empty Corbin setup. So Corbin's, fully loaded, with a passenger and rider might increase your chances of riding the Spyder over its weight limit.

Each product has its positives and negatives and, depending on a persons needs, either can be a great accessory.

Absolutely agree on this point...Up to personal preference and your budget.

Loading everything on one side and not the other is a recipe for disaster no matter what you have. Not sure the lesser capacity of the GIVI luggage is an advantage, until you pull them off and carry them!

Haven't seen the weight comparison between the two, but I would agree.

Couldn't agree more. :2thumbs:

Thanks for a VERY informative post. I am looking at Saddlebags (and I guess LUGGAGE too, now - LOL)
I am still thinking Corbin, but the GiVi looks a lot better than I pictured in my mind. Especially with the silver / Black paint. Really gets me thinking. That is what is so great about this forum. VERY informative and clearly everybody's tastes and opinions are appeciated and respected. Thanks everyone for all of the opinions and pics
