First post on this site. About 3000 miles ago (Nov. 2017) I purchases a new '17 RT. This is my first 3 wheeler. Going to up grade the stock seat and I'm trying to determine which one ... a MUSTANG or an ULTIMATE would be the best for a 5'5" senior citizen? Any short riders out there that can share their riding experience on these seats? Thanks!

There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I am similar in stature (and age) to you.
Russell has done good for me in the past......with moving the "sweet spot" forward an inch or two......on other bikes.
But I don't feel the need for that with my RT.
What aspect of the riding position on the stock seat bothers you ??
I am planning to get a Daylong; just haven't DONE it yet.

Why not try riding with the OEM seat for a while? It'll give your hiney chance to let you know exactly what changes need to be made. :thumbup:
I believe that RDL actually works with your body measurements, to create the seat for you...

I hesitate to give you a firm "recommendation" because everyone is built differently. However, I can relate to your need for an aftermarket seat. So, let me tell you my story.
In my case, I simply could not get comfortable on the stock seat of my F3-T. I knew it almost right away and this was reinforced as the miles added up. (You say you have 3000 miles on your RT. That is plenty of riding to make an informed decision about the need for replacing the seat.) I started dealing with my discomfort by purchasing an AirHawk inflatable seat cushion. (About $100) While it didn't completely solve my problem it did help. And it's a reasonably priced option to see if it might solve yours.
During this off-season, after reading so many good reviews, I decided to order a Russell Daylong custom seat. Now, I have only put 160 miles on it at this point (due to winter weather), but I can say that I like it so far. FYI - Russell works with you in terms of your size and measurements and - most importantly - asking what specifically is giving you discomfort. I'm 5'8" tall so not to much different from you.

We bought our RT last August. We winter in Florida so we ride all year.
Anyway, long story short, my wife and I both had discomfort with the stock seat.
Bought airhawk cushions and although they helped, we ended up buying an Ultimate seat.
Just the basic seat with no drivers backrest.
We Both love the seat and can honestly ride 3 times longer before wanting a break.
FYI: I'm 5'7 so in the same vertically challenged situation as you are.

Thanks for the post as I never really considered Russell since they are in CA (I think?) and I live in Central TX. Over the years on my H-D's I had Mustang seats ... which really worked well on my Heritage Softail. Riding position ... right knee/hip area becomes a problem after an hour or so. This has been an issue on other bikes also. I know that most of this is due to still riding at 65 ... and it seems better since I've been doing the gym routine this winter. Thanks for helping hand!
The reason I am looking at a different seat is because my wife and I are leaving for a ride to Key West in Mid-April which is about 3500 miles round trip from Central TX. I have thought about leaving on the stock seat and heading over to Ultimate in Daytona if it really gets uncomfortable .... but doing that would take a lot of fun out of the ride! Thanks
Based on the many post recommending the RDL seat ... I need to research them before I make a final decision! Never seriously consider this option. Thanks.
Thanks Greg ... I was leaning toward the Ultimate because of their 14 day trail period. The Ultimate is very highly recommended by many.

Ultimate makes a great seat, but it doesn't fit everyone so the 14 day trail is needed. That is what I did, and sadly it did not work for me. I did ask them if they could modify the seat to fit me, but was told that that is not an option. So I returned the seat, and was refunded all but the shipping cost. That trial ran me $100 (shipping both ways) to try, but now I know.
I ended up going back to Russell (2 on my past Harley's) as they make them to fit you. They even have an 8 month trial to ensure it's right for you.
I learned my lesson as any new seats will be Russell.
In 2013 I bought my RTL. I drove it for a year and got an Airhawk, which helped immensely, but still didn't quite make it. Drove for another year, finally got an appointment with Russell Day Long, best thing that I have ever done. I am 5'5" on a good day!.. Took two days. Been happy ever since. I am now stuck tho... I will have to buy RTL's for the rest of my life because I won't ever get rid of this seat, that is how comfortable it is. I got all the bells and whistles they offered heated seat, embroidery and backrest etc. Good luck with your search, You can't go wrong with RDL!

Yes, shipping will be rather expensive but if you pack it yourself it shouldn't be too bad.
If you pay a "pack and ship" place to send it.......sit down before they tell you the price. :yikes:

Disclaimer: I'm not trying to steal the thread or start an argument... It truly amazes me when someone whom is 5'7" claims to be vertically challenged. Being a 5'2" male, I would love to be 5'7".
Now back to the thread... HerbU, Have you considered Tri-axis Handlebars? I was uncomfortable and felt like my arms were stretched out too far and like I was sitting too far back in the seat before changing the bars.
