• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Belt Pulley

My front pulley bolt fell out and stripped all the gears making the belt to fall off as well....ruined a good ride.
Had to trailer it home. 6 hours of towing and dealing with the mess and 2 hours of riding.

Lesson: Make sure you tighten and inspect that bolt.

It seems to be a weak link. Mine was on its way out when I had it changed. Before it left me on the side of the road.

It happened to mine just about like you described smokster. Only mine had the bolt break off right at the threads. They had to remove the rest of the broken off threads from the shaft and then replace the front pulley. Being it's only happened to a few of us, I wonder if they have a spotty supplier on those bolts. ie. every so often, they put out a weak one.

:( Sorry to hear of the breakdown.

Which model and year Spyder do you have? Also wondering how many miles you have on it?

I've added this bolt and the sprocket and gears to my list of items to check on regular maintenance intervals.

Is it something that should be checked MORE often then the manual suggested maintenance checks?

I'm wondering if this is covered under warranty (if you have warranty remaining)? Perhaps it falls under Drive System?:dontknow: If would be interesting to know if it is in fact covered?!

Thank you and good luck with the repair.

27,500 miles, just got the extended warranty. We will see if we can put it under warranty.
Does anyone know the torque this should be tightened to?

I've seen quite a few problems with splines, torn motor mounts, wheel hubs going bad etc and in all cases it was just a matter of the belt being way over tight. Don't know why these belts are set so tight but then again the most common damage to motorcycles in general is overtightening almost everything. These belts should have at min some slack, in most cases the pivot center and drive shaft are not exactly on the same plane so the belts tend to get tighter as the suspension is compressed. In this configuration an overtight belt can exert several thousand pounds of preasure on the shafts and wheel hubs.
I would personally loosen up the belt so there is about 1" of slap in it.

I believe the manufacturer probably knows better.

BRP came thru and gave me a new pulley and belt, excluding labor.
I have the extended BEST warranty, I am ok with this.
