• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Belt position a problem ?

I noticed my drive belt has been moving in and out on the rear sprocket a bit. As you can see it is a full centimeter from the inside edge. I've heard it should be almost touching the inside edge, ideally with just a hair of distance. I can also see marks on the inside edge of the sprocket that looks like the belt has been hitting the edge. You can see a bit of that in the photo. I thought it was normal but I've looked at other spyders and didn't see the marks. I just had the tension checked and and was told it was good. Is it normal, or shop time ?

Belt position a problem

Something there is definitely out of alignment. Need to make sure front sprocket is torqued to specs, then align rear wheel to get belt within specs. If you don't do your own maint. I would get it to dealer asap...

Shop time. Possibilities include bad drive sprocket/splines, bar rear wheel or rear sprocket bearings, or even a loose axle nut. Your tech needs to be a bit more thorough!

:agree: and don't worry, University of Sherbrooke received $6.2 million grant and still have that problem on the hybrid:

Thanks guys. I think I knew the answer but was hoping otherwise. I'll head down in the morning, and share your input with service manager.

The tolerance is from 1 - 5 mm away from the inner flange. The service manual specifically states that having the belt in the position pictured is an out-of-tolerance condition. I am wondering if your rear wheel is as misaligned as mine was. Mine was pretty far out of tolerance but it was the other way, too tight against the pulley flange.

Was the dealer able to diagnose and fix the problem in a reasonable amount of time ? I can't get an appointment for over a week.

Belt Update

Unfortunately this isn't going well. I took the RT in about 2 weeks ago. They called the next day and said it was done. I went to pick it up and saw that the belt was in proper position. I rode it 1 block then got off to check. Yup, the belt was hanging off the outside edge of the sproket. I took it back to the shop and asked what they had done. The only answer the service manager could give me was "The belt was adjusted", swell. The bike was there for another week and I went to check on it. They said it was ready but they wanted to give it one last test drive. Its been about a week and the bike is not ready. Clearly the test drive didn't go well.
Reading between the lines of what the service manager has told me, they can't figure out how to fix it. I believe the rear sproket or rim, or both, are not true, but they don't want to hear that. Has anyone else had this problem and had it resolved ?

I hope yours is not the same as mine;
[GS 08] I had to readjust my belt a few times, Finally i figured it must be rear bearings, I was right, But it was also a double whammy, Front sprocket and shaft also.

You have my sincere condolences. You most certainly are in need of a competent technician. This should not be a tough problem to troubleshoot...any good tech should be able to do it. It cannot, unfortunately, be diagnosed by computer, nor by just looking or listening. My money is on a bad drive sprocket/drive shaft, but it could well be bad rear sprocket/wheel bearings, or both situations at once. Could even be a bad belt. Let's hope your dealership gets smarter soon.
