• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Belt on the RT Limited

Ok guys. How much play should there be in the belt on the RT. Also what do you gauge the room of play by. I'm trying to figure if I should adjust the tension in the belt or not. I was at a dealer (not my usual one) and asked the service dept. Of course they said they had to see the bike but they could not give me an estimate of how much room there should be or what to look for. So it leads me to believe they are not that qualified in Spyder repair yet. I do have about 4300 miles. Thanks safe riding.

The Spyder spec calls for testing belt tension with a sonic gauge, with the Spyder jacked off the ground. An average of three tests with the wheel rotated between tests is specified. Only qualified dealers have this gauge. Your dealer should know this, so your suspicions are probably justified. Be sure you talked to the actual Spyder tech at your dealership. Salesmen and many service advisors don't understand this. Your technician should, if he is BRP trained and certified.

Many owners use the Krikit 2 belt tension gauge, available from NAPA. This will not give a comparable reading, so it is important to have the tension checked properly by a dealer, then to test with the Krikit to establish a base line. For a quick, ballpark method, grab the belt halfway near the middle of the top or bottom run, with your thumb and forefinger, and try to twist it. A properly tensioned belt will twist about 90 degrees...with some difficulty. If it twists farther, it is probably too loose, if less, it is probably too tight. If that's the case, I would find a qualified dealer and have it adjusted.

Thanks. I'm very suspicious when I don't get some kind of response besides bring it in. At least tell me why then I'm ok with it. Thanks again.
