• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Being seen

Thanks for the great tips. Going for another demo ride today. If I buy, I can see an improved horn, improved lighting for front and rear (flashing brake light included).

~~~Rick, don't forget the insulated beverage cooler (linq) BRP offers, that fits behind the driver, where the pillion would sit. It'll keep your cerveza frio. Probably the most useful Ryker accessory
I don't disagree headlight modulators are annoying, but they do as designed, get you noticed. Dale
I have had headlight modulators on several bikes and I cut off the light sensor and replace it with a switch I mount on the left handle bar. I call it a light horn and use it near shopping centers and places where cars egress. Great for getting left lane bandits to move to the right.
Those things annoy the hell out of me and many others. Get brighter lights and a flashing stop light to keep from getting rear ended which happen more often than getting hit head on.
Jack
Isn't that the idea behind the modulator! I've had them on a few bikes over the years and people see you and don't pull out in front of you.
See post #17 above. I do agree that modulators do get other's attention. Just don't make them mad.
Under a similar situation, I had a driver try to run me off the road to teach me a "lesson."
I have been riding motorcycles for over four decades now -health issues forced me to get a Spyder -but I am still learning and try to avoid idiot drivers every time I ride. It does not matter if you have hi-vis stuff, loud horns, loud pipe, if an idiot driver does not pay attention to driving or too busy posting FB, (s)he will not see you whether it's a car or a motorcycle.
I just ride defensively, treat other drivers as idiots. BTW, I have loud horns and bright headlights on all my bikes.
Cheers and ryde safely.
I work as the Vehicle Garage Shift Supervisor for our local school district. The majority of MVA's we're involved in are rear-enders! How in the blazes can you not see a bright yellow, 8' wide 12' tall vehicle, with reflective tape all over it, and with flashing lights and stop signs? Ryding the Spyder (or driving any vehicle for that matter) I'm always on constant alert and always leave myself an out, especially in heavy traffic.
Some basics that makes the Ryker low visibility to cagers/others:
1. Black Black Black Color 2. Rider sits low
I plan to get a 2021 Ryker ( giving my 2015 F3-S to brother) when available and will spend a ton on led lightning: 1. front fender - running/turn/brake (this also lights up side and bottom of bike) 2. top case and rear running/turn/brake 3. hand guards/front hood/arms/ skid plate white LED's 4. Try an integrate the gear smart brake module - brakes lights come on when slowing without hitting brakes.
In addition I have bright reflective jacket and helmet
This should help along with knowing I will still be invisible to others.
I usually ride with the headlights on even during daytime(not just the position lights), when doing so I'd estimate every third car flashes their headlights at me. Doesnt matter if they are annoyed by my headlights or just think I forgot them on, it gives me a confirmation that they have indeed noticed me, so the tactic seems to work to at least add some additional safety.
But ultimately the only way to stay safe in trafic is to just expect EVERY other vechicle (or pedestrian etc) to do the most stupid and dangerous move at any moment, and do your own driving accordingly in terms of keeping distance, be ready to brake etc. :)
There is a local motorcycle police officer that wears a fluorescent yellow jacket and white helmet while on patrol. He has a reputation for being tough on moving violations and registration compliance. When I ride I wear a fluorescent yellow jacket and white helmet. The way I see it if they are watching for him they are going to see me.
