• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Be careful and get what you pay for

I bought a2013 RT LTD used end of May 2015 with 9925 miles. Purchased a service plan for 6 services up to 36 months because of the major service called for every 14 months and prepaying gave me a33% discount and a free loaner or pick up and delivery by the dealer. Brought it in ( with an appointment ) for the 14k mile service and picked it up the end of the next day. When I was filing my cop away I looked at it. They did nothing but and oil change and a few checks. Went back and had them to everything they forgot to change and service. They hadn't changed the brake fluid, coolent fluid, air filter, wheel bearings with tire alignment, spark plugs etc. So, if your dealer offers such a plan, check your service record receipt and make sure you get what you paid for.

BAIT - SWITCH - THEN BS

So after you brought it in and complained ....they then said OK you caught us :roflblack:......we'll do it...:roflblack:.........BUT, how do you know they really did it ????...............I just had a Dealer claim my instrument cluster needed to be replaced ( $ 839.00 + labor ) to fix the AMBIENT temperature problem I was having.....Total BS, it's a completely separate part ( sensor w/cable ) that would fix the issue.............Not dissing you on this ,just making you aware of how bad it can get........Mike

Your experience is why, in another thread, I cautioned someone against buying a maintenance plan. Now you have no trust in these folks and you're stuck with them.

Observe

When its time for my F3-S to be serviced, I will be watching service technician with a close eye and making sure I get my moneys worth. At the same time I get to learn how a spyder is serviced

Most shops wont let you in the back where they are doing work for liability concerns.

With that said only few service shops ive found have a viewing area where you can safely observe the tech at your vehicle (still too far away to see what tech is doing) are Gateway tire & a Twin citys car wash. Best to find good dealer & tech's that will get into detail with you about the services g'luck.

I'm pretty lucky; I get in the service area all of the time...
But I've been going to this shop for long enough, that they now trust me, as much as I trust them.

Yikes...!!

Glad you caught them and got the work done. Tough to do but back when I did not do my own work I would mark the areas that needed to be worked on to see if it was done...little dab of paint does the trick....

Luckily I have an agreement with dealer to watch my spyder being serviced from the workshop entrance

Thats a great idea. Hey dealer, not that i dont trust you, but i dont, i need to watch my service being done. I wish we could all do that. most of them give you the line about insurance wont allow us to let you come in the shop area. Which is also probably true but most places you can probably see from the entrance. it would be nice to verify the time if nothing else. I had a dealer charge me 1.5 hours to do something and they called me in just under an hour from drop off it was ready (i had no ride back so was walking the neighborhood waiting and they knew that) but they still refused to lower the price from 1.5 hours labor which personally i have a problem with.

I understand

....There are two types of time .....REAL time and SHOP time( hours ). Spyder dealers aren't the only ones who do this. I'm sure all car/trk dealers work on The BOOK = shop hours written for any given job, and this what they charge you for ( unless they take longer :roflblack: ). I just brought mine in for warranty work and it was stripped of PANELS......they were practically DANCING they were so Happy....because it was going to LESS real hours for them.....but they would charge BRP ...SHOP hours .........:gaah:......Mike

Darren lives in England. Things are different there. I'm guessing they are either more tolerant or simply less litigious than we are.

Dealers make a huge profit on prepaid service. Too many variables for me to consider mainly the fact that I don't keep anything too long. Sure they are transferable but doesn't help much if you sell to someone out of state as we commonly do.

Honda of Winston Salem has a viewing area about 20 feet from the service area. And they let you smoke inside too. Both of these things are pretty rare nowadays.

Hi Mike,
How far do you have to "truck" your Spyder to the Dealer? I've considered removing Tupperware, but it's a 54 mile ride, with some 4-lane highway thrown in for fun...
I try to give my Dealer the best possible list of what's going on with the bike, so that they have a decent idea of where to start looking for the problem...

My service center in Durham will let me wander in and check on them. As for charged hours vs actual hours, they have been close, or in my favor. Very happy with them so far. Going in next month for my second oil change next month. I will let you know.

TRUCKING TO DEALER

Hi Mike,
How far do you have to "truck" your Spyder to the Dealer?...........65 MILES........ I've considered removing Tupperware, but it's a 54 mile ride, with some 4-lane highway thrown in for fun...

.......................But there are other considerations involved.....This wasn't going to be a bring it - they fix it while I wait thing......So if I didn't put it in my Truck ( 25 min. to do it ) ....I would have to get someone to drive with me to bring me home........Mike
