Battery

Went out to go for a ride yesterday and my Spyder turned over really slow but fired up just,did about 15miles then stopped for fuel.Did the same again but started so didn't go as far as I'd planned but when I got back home and tried it again it turned over as normal so am guessing the battery charge was low.I only use my spyder on weekends as I know the short commute to my work isn't good for the battery but am now thinking leaving it sitting all week the battery is draining as well.Problem I have is it's kept in a council garage with no power for a trickle charge and I read something the other day about even when switched off there's still a drain on the battery is this true?I have ordered a new battery which I assume is an easy change over but does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can stop my new battery from draining as at £74 I wouldn't like to be replacing it every other month

Let's see..!!

first check the battery to make sure it is bad. May just need a full charge. Check connections for battery, jumper posts, and grounds. If you don't ryde far enough to recharge your battery the get a battery tender and hook it up during the week. Should not discharge in a week could also check the charging system. Should be getting about 14 volts to the battery...:thumbup:

Went out for a ride today and it started fine so I would say the battery is ok but is draining during the week.I would have had a tender on it Chupaca but like I said I have no power in my garage to plug it into and the kids would just smash a solar panel.I have already ordered a new battery from EBay so I might just put the new one in then charge my old one and connect it to the one on my Spyder during the week to save my new battery Thanks again for your help much appreciated

Some bikes had a bad radio that would drain the battery down over a weeks time. My 2011 had this and they changed it out to a later model 2012 and fixed the problem (also fixed the poor reception issue). That being said I always keep my battery connected to a high quality trickle charger just to keep my battery in peak condition when I am home.

Also, on my 2011, every so often the engine would barely turn over and acted like a low batter but it was just trying to start near the top of the compression cycle. Once it pushed over the top it would start turning over good and fast again.

The 2014 always sounds draggy when it starts, but its the nature of the beast now with the extra cylinder in the equation.

Bought a multi meter to check the battery and it's reading 12.86 rising to 13.67 when started so seems fine to me?? Must just be with sitting all week it's dropping slightly anyways I now have a new one in my garage just in case Does anyone know if a Ritar RT 12200 is the OEM Battery in the GS?
