I figured since the dealer was going to replace all the wiring in my RT-S, that while they had all the plastic off, I'd have them put a new battery in it. Called them and service manager said that was a great idea in that my spyder was about a year and a half old. He said in Flarda with all the humidity, etc., and the fact that the spyder draws a lot of "juice", it was prudent on my part to have them go ahead now and install.

Chris,

You use a Battery Tender, don't you? And you keep your Spyder in a garage, out of the sun, right? I would think you should have a lot of life left in your battery. But, since they have it apart (replacing the wiring???) and if it saves you money, I think I'd do the same thing.

Sis is progressing well in Rehab, and will finish a few days before we're scheduled to leave for Cherokee. Hope nothing comes up to prevent us from going. See you there...

Yes and Yes, Forrest and Red. The complete rewiring, harness, etc., under warranty. The battery is on my nickle. I just felt it wise to have it done then.

I hope all is good with you and Cindy. Sorry to hear about your trouble. Why are they having to rewire the whole Spyder? I have not heard of this before. I hope all will be good for your trip to MV. Keep in touch.

Mike actually I never had to use my battery tender on it, and yes, I keep it in the garage. I just felt that my experience with batteries has been a life of about two to three years. I wanted to have them go ahead and replace now while the plastic was removed. Glad to hear Sis' rehab is progressing and Cindy and I will see you in Maggie Valley.

Rudy, this experience sure has been unusual for me. My dealer was a bit surprised as well, but he said that BRP recommended and would cover. I've had 16,000 trouble free miles so I can't complain at all. Cindy and I will see ya'll in Maggie Valley. We'll be getting there on Tuesday.

Sorry to hear they are replacing all the wiring, but at least that part is being covered by warranty. Hope to see in you Maggie Valley as well.

replace all the wiring

OK, I went back on your post to see what type of problem you where having to constitute a wiring harness change, I guess this is just another case of removing and replacing parts until problem is fixed,,,Oh well...

Good luck and I hope they solve your problems with:spyder2:...

I'm curious. Is it a major operation to get to the battery and replace it?

I looked for the post of the problem that leads to a wiring replacement and can not find it. What is the problem or help finding original post. Thanks.

I know the battery cover has to come off - 2 screws according to Lamonster. But I don't know how many, if any other tupperware panels have to come off to get the battery out of the RT. Going to be working on mine to check the battery connections if I can get the lawn caught up before the next downpour:( Would kinda like to know the ans to that question also:dontknow: So many problems assoiated with Battery reported here I think it's best to check those connections. Seems some dealers apparently are not attentive to tightening them much when they install the OEM battery:gaah:

I'm not a gear head. Don't claim to be and don't wanna be. However, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, you're right about the 2 screws IF checking battery connections. However, to remove the battery, it's my understanding, and again I could be wrong, that you need to remove the tupperware.
