• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Battery tender

Hi all you :spyder:lovers and techs. I have read lots of post that talk about battery tenders. Should i have one , does it mount on the Spyder and if so where, do i plug it in at night ??? :dontknow:.

I have one on mine for when i'm not going to be able to ride it for a couple weeks. If your ride atleast once a week or so you shouldn't really need one but if its going to be parked for 2+ weeks then i would recomend one

It attaches to the battery itself and i ran the leads up under the seat.

I use the Optimate 4 battery tender and like teh previous posting I use it only when I am not going to be riding the spyder for a while or have the sptder in storage for the winter. The Optimate 4 supplies you a connector that attaches directly to the battery and stores under the seat that allows you to connect the battery tender to the bike as needed.

Depends on whether or not your Spyder will sit idle for longer periods. With the cold there in Canada, I'd say,"Yes, you need one," but you could just remove the battery and bring it inside during storage. (A big pain!)

A Battery Tender or the equivalent is a type of battery charger with circuitry to protect against too high a charging rate and overcharging, and circuitry to help maintain the battery voltage after charged. Some of these special chargers will also help eliminate battery sulfating and diagnose the battery state. You should not use a regular automobile charger or trickle charger. They can damage the battery. The Battery Tender is not attached to the bike. You attach a pigtail to the battery for access, unless you have added a power socket that is hot all the time. You can also hook up to the battery with the alligator clips supplied with the unit. During cold weather I plug the Spyder and BMWs in whenever they aren't being ridden. In summer, I don't bother, due to the warmer weather, and frequent riding. Motorcycles never sit still long around here. Hope I have answered your questions.

I've had a 'Tender for my Beemers since . . . So it was only natural that W had to have one for her Spyder, especially since it arrived with the start of our first real winter in years. When ready to ride, unplug and go. Both are plugged in whenever we are not riding for more than a couple days.

I never use to use one but between my 109 and my Spyder I found that it's a good idea to have one. I use it all the time now. Magic Man has one of every kind ever made and he likes this on so much that he became a dealer for them. I like it too, it works much better than that "Smart Charger" I just spent 80 bucks on.

Thanks for all the info so quickly.:2thumbs::bowdown::clap:. Looks like Nomagicneon gets another sale for thier Xtreme charger, i was going to order LED turn signal anyway to go with all my other Nomagic mods.

I found an optimate 4 from Handsontools.com for $43. I'm sure the extreme charger from NMN is a good one but I just couldn't see paying twice as much. ;)

Battery tender plus is a great way to go...Amazon has it for a great price...if you have Prime, it ships for free...

I attached the loops to the battery and used velcro to hold the leads...when not charging, the leads go under the seat and out of the way....charging is simple...just plug the tender in and you're good to go...it's very simple and very effective...the tender is small and works great...

I've used a battery tender most of my riding years on previous bikes and now my Spyder. They are a great thing to use to keep a constant charge on your battery. It keeps it at an even level of charge all the time. I use the battery tender plus for the "Jell" batteries. It will make that battery of yours last much longer by keeping it fully charged. I used to only put it on in winter but now it's year round.

I only need it in the winter...agree with you 100% otherwise...I have the tender plus....think you can use it on any battery, gel or otherwise?
