Battery Tender

I just bought a Battery Tender Jr. and I think I want to use a cig. light adapter in the trunk to maintain the battery. I believe I read that it is hot all the time. This looks like
the easiest way to go to me. Anybody else doing it this way or aware of any problems doing it this way. Also, I just bought an Ultragard full cover and I plan to keep the
Spyder covered with the trunk open enough to run the charger cord through. Anybody aware of ventilation issues doing it this way - what with the Battery Tender Jr on and the
cover on for the winter? Oh by the way I have a 2012 RT-S and this is my first winter storage. Thanks for your input.

I am no help but surely someone will come by soon and give you some advice, will the Spyder be indoors or out? if it is indoors i would leave the cover off to prevent any condensation or crawly critters from nesting unseen.

Plug it in! The 2012s had that plug powered-up all of the time, so it's perfect for the task at hand! :thumbup:

..yes u are thinking right...I asked lamont and he told me to go thru the cig.lighter also in the trunk.i had to buy a quick connect adaptor so that I could plug it into the cig. lighter and keep it charged.So yes this is the way to charge ur 2012 RT -s ..

Now: if your bike was a 2013 or newer; you'd need to move the fuse for that plug from position 6, over into position 7 in order to make it "hot" all of the time. If you don't move it; that plug is only hot when the ignition is on...

When I pick up my 2014; I'm going to leave that fuse in "6" for the summer. That way I can plug in my XM Onyx, and leave it there... When it's time for storage; I'll move it over into "7", and plug the bike in for it's nap... :thumbup:

I have a 2012 RT. I wired a cig lighter socket to take the tender. The center of the plug is positive. Very easy to use. Make sure you get the positive and negative wires right.

Can you do the same thing on a 2011 RT Limited? Also, is it the cigarette adapter plug that I need that fits the battery tender?

Deltran sells the ones that i know for sure plug right into their battery maintainers... Others might also work; take a look at the connectors to be sure!

I couldn't find one to buy, so I had to make it...that's why I talked about the positive and negative wires. I didn't know Deltran sells them. ...oh well....

Thanks for the info Bob much appreciated. Will pick up the cigarette lighter adapter and get her charging the battery. I'll throw the cover on and just keep
an eye on everything as far as ventilation/condensation goes. It's in an unheated garage but I think the cover will let air pass through enough that condensation
won't be an issue.

Here are 2 versions of the one I bought. One is just a straight cord while the other has a coil cord similar to a land line phone. For those that still remember those. Lol

Spyders (and most other modern vehicles) are 12 volt. Get a battery maintainer meant for motorcycle use, with 2 amps or less output. The Deltran Battery Tender, Optimate, Accumate, Xtreme, and small Genius units are all good choices.
