• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Sorry for sounding like a newbie, but which battery tender would you guys recommend for the 2014 RT....the Battery Tender Junior 12V @ 0.75A or the Battery Tender Plus @ 1.25 amps?

I use the JR. (whenever i use it) but either one should work great.

There you have it..

seems to be the choice of many. The Jr will be best to maintain your charge while not in use for extended periods...

Contrary to some comments others have made in the forum here, you can use the Battery Tender, or other high quality battery maintainer, to recharge a partially run down battery. I have a NAPA 2 amp charger/maintainer that I use to recharge the battery if the Spyder has been sitting for several days without riding. There are enough parasitic loads that a battery will drop down a volt or two in a week or so. I have a Battery Bug monitor (no longer made) on my Spyder and it starts beeping when the voltage drops below 12. The charge rate is slow at 2 amps. That's why I would suggest you consider the higher output model.

The absolutely required feature you want to look for, and probably all Battery Tender brand models have it, is a maintain function. That causes the maintainer to stop the charge when the battery is fully charged, and then pulses a charge as needed to keep the charge up. There are other charger brands that have that feature such as NAPA, Schumacher, and others, so you don't need to limit yourself to the BT brand.

Charging

Can the battery tender be used to charge system through the 12v power socket in the back trunk? My new 2014 RT is being delivered Wednesday morning and I am trying to have things prepared before the baby arrives.

Yes. That's exactly what I do with mine. Just change the fuse (in the frunk) that is associated with the 12V plugs so that it's on all the time and not just switch-activated.

:agree: Changing the positioning of the fuse is well-covered in the owner's manual...
I move mine to the "Hot" position for use of the Battery Tender during the Off-Season...

..,and move it to the "Keyed" power source position, for the use of my Onyx XM radio during the Riding Season! :D

Another Jr vote! My pigtail is connected directly to the battery in the frunk and also serves as the pigtail for my compressor.

i use the extreme motorcycle charger has 5 stages to bring a dead battery back to life and conditions it. May get some crap for this but the battery will last longer if allowed to run down as they develop memory. I will run radio for a hr or 2. Then hook up charger for o 2hrs or go for a long ride
