• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Battery/Starting slow spin - is this common & why doesn't it start like a normal motorcycle?

Ok maybe an hour is a bit much but 10 minutes is not enough time to replace 1 % of the battery capacity. You just took 100 amps out of the battery and now you need to replace it. That would be 16.6 amp minutes and assuming the charge rate of the system is low (1 amp or less to avoid over heating the battery) it would take more than 20 minutes to replace it.
More typically my starter runs 1-2 seconds. Since we're guessing at the charge rate, I'm going to guess that the Spyder charges at the recommended 2A at any kind of rpms at all. 10 minutes is more than enough to replace the charge from a nominal start.

I need a new battery for my 2022 F3S, and there seems to be a lot of choices and opinions. Which one is the current go to battery these days?
I see Lamonsters carries a Drag specialty branded one that looks good, but not sure.
Thanks for any info. I have the original Chinese battery in the F3S now.

Yuasa is a top-rated motorcycle battery, made in the USA, and was original equipment on Rykers and Spyders until a couple of years ago. I got 5 years and 22K miles on the OEM Yuasa in my Ryker, and just replaced the cheap battery that died in my Spyder with a Yuasa.

Lamonster sells great stuff, if that's an easy way for you to get a battery go for it, but remember to fully charge it before you put it in! good luck

If the initial slow spin of the starter is common, does anyone know the reason why it doesn’t start like a normal motorcycle with a short stroke engine.

Define "Normal Motorcycle"??

And with only 4 MM difference, the Ace 1330 is so close to being a square engine that the difference hardly matters.

I have had at least 20 motorcycles over the last 62 years. All of them were common, traditional, one through six cylinders. Of course some had only kick starters, but the majority had electric starters. None of them hesitated when the start button was pushed. But the Spyder doesn't appear to me to be spinning over fast enough or quick enough for it to start instantly. Even my old Harley Sportster and my 1800 VTX's, spun over more quickly.

How many of your normal motorcycles was running a 12.2 to 1 compression ratio from the factory?

Probably none of them except for the Harley Sportster, which required high test leaded fuel. However, a 12.2 compression ratio is not a good excuse for having something that is reluctant to turn over quickly. A larger battery, larger gauge battery cables, and a more efficient starter might do the trick.

Any Sportster that required leaded fuel would not have over about a 10.5 to 1 compression ratio. If you don't believe high compression ratio places a drag on the starter, then I have nothing more to say on the subject. I just find it amazing that all normal motorcycles, like the 2 stroke dirt bikes, and the old one lung 500 cc dirt bikes all started the same way. All the normal motorcycles must have the same starter gearing too. I have a problem with generalizing anything as normal.
