• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Battery Replacement

I have noticed that when I start my spyder it will recycle through the start-up screens, and that at times there will be a black screen. Thought I read somewhere that it was the battery telling you to get a new one. Contacted my service dealership and here is what they have for batteries:

Drag Specialities for $129.99 plus tax and a YUASA for $138.99 plus tax. Both batteries are maintainence free, charged and ready to go

Any recommendations??

I was thinking about a lithium battery for my replacement, I will probably change it out after this season.

I put in the odyssey pc680 and it has been a huge step up from stock. There's never been a slow crank since I changed it. The pc680 fmj has extra heat shielding and would fit as well. Battery Mart has them for $116 and $134.

I also have had the pc680 for a few years along with the odyssey charger. Did you have a little problem attaching the positive cable (I think) to the battery b/c of the angle of the terminal end?

Yup, had to bend it back a bit, but other than that, it dropped right in.

My original battery in my '08 GS, lasted just one yr. Replaced with the Odyssey PC680, and still strong after four yrs.

motobatt

motobatt- two year waranty, extra set of terminals. costs a little less
yuasa - one year warranty, no extra terminals.costs a little more.

There sure seems to be an awful lot of "suspect" specifications...
What should we specifically be looking for when shopping? :dontknow:

Just to throw another option into the mix, I am using Interstate Batteries FAYTX24HL on our Spyders and have been very happy with them as well. Price should run around $130 or so. As with anything, your mileage may vary.

I have a brand new Shorai with their special charger just sitting on my work bench. It has very odd starting procedures which is not disclosed when purchasing. If the bike is cold (say 45 deg garage) it barely turns the engine over over and sometimes not at all. You then keep the key on for 60 seconds to run power through it so the battery gets warmer. On the second or third restart it starts right away. Once the bike is warm it starts fine every time. The only real advantage is the weight saving. I checked other batteries but the stock battery is about as good as it gets unless you can relocate the battery and install a larger one. A waste of $400 but I will take it along in my trailer for running the cargo lights, lol... being LED that should last about 10 years without recharge, lol.

THIS ITEM

This is what I put on the Spyder...Hard to beat... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Motobatt-MB...US_Rechargeable_Batteries&hash=item5af0fbef36 Free shipping

another option

Just purchased a yuasa from Battery Giant.......$80 , dealer wanted $139. They also have the Lithium but not selling them yet until more info available. Lithium weighs about 4lbs, costs $350. Swears it can go a full year without cgarging and still turn over. Advised me to stick with Yuasa for the present .
