Battery Charger suggestions

I wanted to see what everyone's suggestions would be for a charger/maintainer for my RT when not riding. I have a battery tender and made up a pigtail for it yesterday so I could use it to charger through the power point in the trunk. Everything worked great but I'm not crazy about having the :spyder2: parked behind the house so I can charge it. I normally keep it in our storage building but I dont have any power ran to the building yet. Would a solar charger be ok to keep the battery charged? I have tried one and it keeps my truck battery charged normally around 13.7 to 14 volts.

Would it be ok on the Spyder?

This is the one I use...

I use a dual battery tender....one hooks to the Spyder when parked and the other lead is for my lawn tractor. Works great and keeps the battery "maintained". :thumbup: I did switch the fuses so the rear 12V socket in the rear trunk is "live" all the time (my 2012 was "live" all the time, but the 2014 was only on when the key was on unless you do the fuse change). I just plug in my battery maintainer in the socket ... works great.

I don't know about the solar types as I have never used them!

I understand. Is it too far to run an extension cord until you run the permanent power to the building???? I had a detached garage in the first house I bought and had the same issue. Extension cords worked until the power was run to the building.

solar will work fine. You are only maintaining and not charging even though solar will handle both....:thumbup:

Yeah its probably about 100ft and I'm not comfortable running a cord that far. That's a project I have to get done though.

hyea:...You can spend lots more, however the Schumacher Battery " MAINTAINER " @ Walmart does what it's supposed to do for lots less ......You can order it on-line and have it sent to any Walmart you choose for free ...............Mikeguyver :thumbup:.........I paid $ 18 a couple years ago

If I were you, I wouldn't worry about your battery not being on a maintainer. I never had a maintainer on my '09GS or my '10RTS and never needed to have them jumped. The '10 I had for four years. JME
