This tip may be of use to people who have luggage racks that block battery removal. In my case it was a modified 3 bag Industries 7 rack. Part of the tubing passed directly in front of the battery, too close to allow removal. Removing the rack is time consuming, but I found an easier way. It turns out that the mount for the passenger peg is quickly temporarily removed ( 4 screws into threaded holes and an Allen headed bolt). The rack bolt under the seat was also removed. With this done, there is enough flexibility in the rack that it can be pulled over to the hand hold and tied to it with string. Then there is plenty of clearance to re and re the battery. Easy peasy!
